Wifey is looking for a new bike, she wants a step through that she can raise the handlebars so she isn’t as hunched over on her current budget bike (can’t insal a riser due to cheap design).
I have been out of the bike world for a long time, but ready to dust off my hard tail and do so local trail riding with her until she’s ready to do some dirt.
I currently have found the following: (note we are in western Canada);

Anyone aware of any other disk brake, easy step through hard tails?

Depending what your wife wants and how much you want to spend, you could just buy an older hardtail and install a riser bar/stem like my wife did. She has a Trek 6700 (it has a significantly sloped top tube, but not like a city bike like the Verve) and has it setup essentially in a beach cruiser riding position [because it’s just used as a city bike].
I think you need to have a serious talk with your wife about how she will *really* use the bike and then start making decisions. I don’t recommend trail riding in a completely upright position, so either she’s going to have to get comfortable in a forward position or you’re going to have to serious limit the kinds of trails you plan to ride.
Does she want an upright step through bike OR an MTB there are bikes that give a little of both (see:marin larkspur) but its always a tradeoff without know exactly what type of trails you want to ride i cant say it would be a good idea to ride them on something like a trek verve
This isn’t a mountain bike, it’s a hybrid bike. It’s made for mostly smooth dirt, gravel, paved trails. If you want a mountain bike, I’d look at other bikes. If you aren’t riding mountain bike trails, then this is a nice bike. Another one to look at is Specialized Sirrus line, although the step-through on that bike isn’t as extreme as this bike.
