Hey guys, I have a brilliant cooper that I really like. It has a belt drive and shimano 3 speed. Wondering if it’s possible to upgrade that hub to a 5 or 7 speed? I reached out to my lbs and they are looking into if it’s possible with belt drive. Anybody have experience??

I think belt drive would only care what size the cogs are (for belt length) it shouldn’t matter how many gears are inside the hub. At a glance it appears the rear cog is compatible across Shimano’s 3 and 7 speed IGHs. I think it’s going to come down to cost of a 5 or 7 speed wheel and shifter.
Also the O.L.D. / spacing in the rear. If it’s 135mm, you have plenty of options. Fewer as it gets narrower. I highly recommend the Shimano Nexus 8 igh hub. Good luck!
