My 5700 left shifter had become difficult to push after a vacation away. Flushing it out with a spray degreaser, followed by Finishline One Up didn’t seem to help. To add, a small “lever” sometimes sticks out when shifting to big gear. I’m then unable to get a click and shift out of the smaller downshift lever until I push that protruding lever in. I’d greatly appreciate your help in saving this shifter

Spray some degreaser, brake cleaner (aerosols are perfect) and scrub it with a paint brush. After it dries spray wd40 or some lube and see if it solves the problem if not you need to rebuild the shifter lever (dissasemble clean grease assemble) you can search on yt or search a dissasemble manual on shimano
Change the cable before it snaps inside shifter. Wonky shifting can mean your shift cable is fraying. If you get it swapped early enough it’s easy
