Like I said in the video, I am not much of a cyclist, but as this is on my door step it is something I have been wanting to do for a while.
And plus, it is along side a canal, so no crazy hills, dangerous roads, just a nice safe 120 km long path. It would be very easy to break this up into a nice day trip, there were a couple of nice pubs/restaurants along the way. They were closed due to Covid-19 restrictions so please check in advance if you do plan on adding these to your trip. It did take approximately three and a half hours to cycling this, it wasn’t very strenuous, but I was glad I could get off the greenway close to Mullingar for a change of scenery and FYI, Mullingar isn’t the most friendliest place for cyclists.

I went on the worse day of the summer, but it was still really nice and peaceful along the canal with some great scenery.

I regret not adding some footage of the macaroon. I have eaten a lot of these, hence why I am cycling 60 km :D, but that blood orange macaroon was spectacular!!

Great place for a coffee and a bite to eat in Mullingar

Also if you do plan on doing this and you are plan on cheating like me, remember to book your train ticket online, that way your bike goes for free. I could have picked a set time ticket or an open ticket for day for the same price. Be warned if you don’t book online, you will have to pay a full fare for your bike if you just rock up to the station.

if you liked the video, please give it a thumbs up and maybe consider subscribing?? either way please leave me a comment, would love to hear some feedback from people πŸ™‚

  2. Hi All, thanks for watching, commenting and giving this video the thumbs up! πŸ™‚ this video is doing really well! A very nice surprise as when I was putting it together I was thinking to myself that this will be another one for the flop pile! I am really curious as to what brought you guys to the video and what you liked and even more importantly didn't like. Did ye like the time lapse in there?

It is hard to "grow organically" on youtube, so I am delighted with the traction this is making! πŸ™‚

A few of you have asked if I will finish the trip off? I plan on it, I really want to. So therefore I will πŸ™‚ just have to wait for the current restrictions to lift and the weather to suit the drone! I am going to blame the drone for not doing it sooner, even though if I am honest I am a bit of a fair weather cyclist.

  3. Amazing video Derek!!! Thank you very much. I usually run on the greenway from Samuel Beckett bridge to Maynooth harbour and I always wonder what comes after the harbour thanks to you now I know πŸ™‚ I have a plan to run the entire greenway and you just deliver invaluable information, thank you.

  4. Great video. Wonder if there was any twrrible surface sections at all along the way? Something like Clonsilla-Leixlip-Maynooth…

  5. Real men cycle back haha. joke, i got to Leixlip and a good way past Enfield but there was a head wind going back, that was fun. over 75km that day.

  6. Thanks for putting this together, brilliant stuff. Was curious about the trail and found your vid based on an organic search.

  7. Very nice video Derek, I was thinking of walking the full 130 km to Longford, but to be honest, the path looks a bit bland. I think cycling is the way to go! Try doing the full length next πŸ™‚

  8. Nice job, very nicely captured and a story well told. I did a video of a little bit of that stretch by canoe, Boyne dock to Hill of Down, while making that I realised Google maps have run along the canal with the camera on a boat which is a great source of info for planning anything like this.

  9. Lovely video man spend alot of time cycling walking and dog walking along the canal from maynooth to longwood nice to see on from blackshade to mulingar must venture that way
