I got a flat and replaced the tube but the new tube is showing through the gash. Is there a patch that is recommended or am I overthinking it?

The new tube will not survive for long like this. There should be at least some patch from inside of the tire.

You should replace…a boot will get you home, but there is a going to be contamination inside the tire from extended riding like this. You can try sewing it, with a boot, but I think it’s also a temporary fix.
