Got a new Brompton and the back hub is making a strange rubbing noise. I’m pretty sure this can’t be normal but wanted to check here before taking it into a shop. Has this ever happened for anyone else?

Yes, this rubbing noise is usual. If shifting has been working ok and if the rear wheel spins freely when the unfolded Brompton is in work stand (rear wheel off the ground), then the observed back pedal noise is ok. The noise is caused by a combination of the freehub spring loaded paws and the spring loaded hub internals and planetary gears.
