Let me know your thoughts on the Grizl! I’m needing to upgrade my gravel rig and the Grizl CF SL7 has caught my eye.
Seems like a great option. Especially for the price. My only hesitation is that they really market this bike as the adventure ready bike, and I’m worried the geometry won’t perform well on the road. I’m not looking for a speed/aero machine, but I will use this bike on the road as well as gravel and I don’t want it to feel too sluggish if I’m on a road ride with my buddies.

I’m riding a Grizl cf sl7 2x. Feels quick on gravel and road.
Check out the geo on bike insights or geometry geeks to compare to other frames. It’s marketed as a more adventure bike but if I remember correctly it’s very similar to the Grail.
Grizl will be fine on road, but if you want something more geared towards the road, the Grail CF SL 7 is a couple hundred more and has a more race geared geometry.
Canyon really fucked up their marketting on the Grizl. They present it as a bikepacking adventure machine with all these shots of it loaded up with bags, but it’s geometry is hardly that of a bikepacking/adventure rig.
It’s significantly longer and lower than most other bikes that are marketted for the same purpose, and it’s highly similar to the Grail in it’s Stack+ and Reach+ measurements if you look at the geometry charts for both bikes.
So I reckon it’s probably no slouch on the road, though the 71 degree head tube angle will make the steering feel a bit slower than a proper road bike.
I just bought the Grizl CF 7 etap and it’s amazing! Super quick and climbs really well. I even got the 1by and haven’t noticed an issue with gear gaps. I came from a hybrid bike and have never owned a road bike but the geometry seems quite similar feeling to the ones I’ve ridden.
I love it. Use their size guide–don’t estimate your measurements. Grizl super fun.
I just got a Grizl SL8. So far it rides smooth on the road and it gets Rudy in the dirt. I plan on participating in a gravel race in June with it. It’s not a podium bike, but I’ll have fun.

I bought a Grizl before I really knew a lot about geometry. I chose to buy this from a lot of reviews and comments that the grail was more racy, the grizl was more of an adventure/gravel bike.
I’m not built like a road rider. I got on the thing and was good for shortish rides but the more I rode it the more I just felt I had so much weight on the front and my hands. I went for a bike fit and the guy dialled me in (noting that I very much picked the correct size). I still felt like i was on my hands. I sold the bike.
I’ve since learned from bikeinsights that the grizl is typically longer and lower than most every other gravel/adventure alternatives.
So to answer your question – I think it’d be great for the road given its geo.
I ride my grizl on the road a ton. It puts me in a relatively aero position, and I have a lot of fun. Compared to a road bike, I think the Grizl is probably more stable, and doesn’t want to jump around turns as much. But it’s a great bike
I have the CF SL 7. Since I got it I no longer use my mountain bike. And I just got a second wheelset for road rides and thinking I might sell my road bike.
I’ve owned this bike and it’s deceivingly a very aggressive bike geometry wise. Really stretches you out. Had a lot of fun with it tho!
It is quite fast on the road.
It seems to work fairly well doing a bit of everything. This past weekend I did a 60km road ride on it that had an 10km 1050m climb in the middle, it was fine, handled no problem descending at 65-80km. Went off road and climbed some mtb single track, went on a quick mission to the grocery store.
Works fine on the road as someone said the steering feels a bit sluggier and acceleration not as quick. However comfort of the fatter tyres makes up for it and cruising speed is same as my sl7
