Hey friends. Question. I’m buying a Giant Trance 2 after testing it and falling in love with it and the type of riding I want to do. Kept catching myself smiling on it. Budget was $2k or so, so it fits well.
I have a couple hundred bucks I can put into extras or upgrades, and if I do them now they will give me a credit for whatever they take off the bike and a 15% discount on the parts.
Example: going from deore rear derailleur to XT is normally $200 or so but if they pull the new part off and credit me and give me my 15% discount then it’ll only be $65 to upgrade, which is a no-brainer to me.
Any other things you’d upgrade here that makes sense? Wheels? Brakes? I was thinking of putting on a XT front shifter too so I can do multiple gears at once.
I want to get bang for buck given I get 15% off new parts and and credit for parts they swap out.

P.s. I did look at the trance 29 1 but for $500 more out of budget it didn’t seem like it was worth it, and the marzocchi fork seemed good to start off with. Any help appreciated.

I’ve got a Trance X Pro 1, great bike. For my money, I’d look into grips, pedals and getting the shop to upgrade to tubeless from tubeless ready. I’ve got Ergon GA3 grips and Crank Brothers Stamp 3 pedals, but it’s really down to personal preference.
Enjoy the bike!
If I had say $250 to spend on that bike I would buy an XT shifter because it’s the only part in the drivetrain where you will feel the difference. Everything else is a couple of grams and if want that much weight savings, loose weight. I’d also get a solid set of pedals, I prefer alloy. You could maybe fit in a dropper lever to get something a bit higher quality that will work more consistently.
I’ve got that bike. Loving it for sure.
Only upgrades I’ve made are swapping out the grips, brake levers (did not like the feel of the stock ones) handle bar (for colour) – which I cut down, 800 was too wide, and pedals I’ve carried over from my old bike.
But I’m an average rider at best….basic shifting works for me 🙂
