I prefer using a heat gun, a scraper, and a wire brush.
It’s not toxic, it doesn’t generate a ton of dust, it’s safe, and its effective.

It works almost too well and is some nasty shit, and so is the runoff it leaves. I don’t know that it can eat through the plastic bag but I wouldn’t be at all surprised. You do want to use it along with a wire brush. Do it over a generous area of cardboard laid out and have a trash can ready. If the notion here is you’re going to fill the bag up with it and it’s going to do all the work and out will come a clean frame with the stripper staying neatly contained in the bag, no that’s probably not real.

I prefer media blasting. Easier and leaves a good surface for powder coat or paint. I let the other guys worry about the cleanup and hazardous chemicals.

I got a quote at a local (Philadelphia) powder coating shop for $165 for the frame and fork. That includes sandblasting and paint. I feel like that’s a pretty good deal for a pro job with zero clean up and risk of chemical spill.
