Hello i’m tone claessens from The Vandal  I’m a 36 year old guy from Antwerp I am a graphic designer and passionated about  bicycles and everything around it the first real bike related project i did was  a an old race frame that i got from my father

I painted it completely custom put all the parts  together and really made a piece of art of it and that was the first the beginning of the Vandal was  not clothing were actual bikes that i customized

For myself for selling but i put a lot of time  and effort in a bike so it took me maybe two three months to get everything together so  the price of a bike was pretty high and than when i got the opportunity  to put one of the bikes in a

Clothing shop that’s when that’s the moment when  i started to create some artwork on t-shirts that would go with the bike in the  shop to create a bicycle atmosphere i started the vandal in 2012 starting with the  the old bike frames but pretty quickly t-shirts

Became the main thing the first t-shirt design i  made was for a friend we’re gonna ride the final of The tour of flanders um as a as a birthday  present but to make it a bit more um special i

Made a special design flandreance um printed on  the t-shirt and gave it to him i think that day we were with 12 guys riding they were impressed  with the design and the t-shirt so they asked

To uh want to offer them as well so i printed  12 t-shirts and that’s how things got in motion my brand name the vandal is the only thing  that hasn’t has to do anything with cycling um before the the vandal the cycling brand took  birth i was already graphic designer i made

House styles i made logos i did some  gravity some street art and the name the vandal is from that period and i just took  it over for the brand the inspiration for the brand for the t-shirts for the prints everything  in general is from what i see on the streets when

I ride my bike through the city or even on the  countryside but also in old bicycle races uh old heroes like eddie merckx roger de vlaaming  fausto coppi those guys and those moments that they created in cycling history are a  real inspiration for everything that i do

Beside our own web shop we sell in 50 bike shops  in the the higher uh segment in flanders and uh and wallonie and now we’re starting to expand  our network of dealers uh trough all europe and we get some in germany in spain in italy  and now one in stockholm since yesterday so

Things are moving for us outside belgium i  started the vandal all by myself as a hobby i worked full time in a clothing shop and after  my hours i did it as a hobby uh but after a while

Things got bigger and i started to work three days  a week two days for completely vandal and now uh seven years later we’re with uh three uh full-time  guys and two guys uh who help uh help out

When they can from the beginning it was very  important for me for the vandal as a brand to work with 100% eco and Fair wear cotton but  also to do our production as green and as eco

As possible that’s why we do all the printing in  Antwerp itself all our stock is here we do not wrap anything in plastic we use paper we try to  recycle as much as our as a material as we can

And all those little parts um make us i think a  very ecological company we do all the printing in our own workshop uh till 100 pieces we got like a  big order uh custom order something we do as well

Then uh we use partners uh in the neighborhood  uh that can help us uh with the big productions but all the smaller things uh caps t-shirts  sweaters we do here and we do it well
