    – IXF Cranks with included cheap BB

    – MSreck 38t chain ring – I should have gone larger, but the 38t was significantly cheaper than the 40t

    – Shimano M8000 I got for a great deal. This derailleur might end up on my hardtail

    – Lanxuan cassette 8 speed 11-42. I initially planned on 10 speed but this cassette was too good of a price, and was lightweight. The shifting is fine.

    – Clispeed/Foytoki friction thumb shifter. This laughably inexpensive shifter actually works well and feels good.

    – Shimano 10 speed chain

The shifter didn’t want to pull the mech across the whole cassette, so I used an alternate cable routing trick that I learned from [NSMB](https://nsmb.com/articles/shimano-inadvertently-upgrades-friction-shifting/) (Shout out to this amazing site).

I am very happy, probably spent less than $200 on this setup. I am pleasantly surprised at how well the offbrand shifter and cassette works.
