This Salsa Vaya is my favorite of my bikes because it is so versatile. I decided to by a second hand set of wheels so I had a road set of slicks and something more aggressive for dirt. The second picture doesn’t show the space/ gap well, but does show I can easily slide a 1/4” Allen between the frame and tire. Do you think that is acceptable for a few months of riding? This tires came with the wheels, and I’d like to make good use of them rather than dropping another $100+ on tires.

its not the end of the world, but be weary of going in peanut buttery mud

    and or gravel.

nothing should get stuck, but just know it can get clogged back there.

That would not bother me. In fact I’d probably say “eh I could go bigger”

  3. If your wheel stays true you should be fine. 5mm is normal rule of thumb for clearance and you have about that.
