Hi all, my friend is looking to get into mountain biking this year. I’ve been trying to help find him some good FS options in the 2k-3k CAD range. All prices are in CAD, I was poking through some old threads but can’t find anything comparable for Canada recently so figured I’d put one up.
The best options I have found are the [2023 Rocky Mountain Instinct A10](https://www.thebikeshop.com/product/rocky-mountain-instinct-alloy-10-73725.htm) and [A30](https://www.thebikeshop.com/product/rocky-mountain-instinct-alloy-30-73726.htm) on sale for $2359 and $2939 respectively. Both are 2023 models on sale at LBS where we are located in Alberta.
Also a [2022 Giant Trance X 29 1](https://www.ridleys.com/product/giant-trance-x-29-1-398117-1.htm) and a [2023 Giant Trance 29 2](https://www.ridleys.com/product/giant-trance-29-2-398114-1.htm) at LBS’s here for $2995 and $2599 respectively.
For availability’s sake as we are looking at some clearouts here we are looking for an XL in Southern Alberta. I’ve heard that the direct to consumer manufacturers should be cheaper but I can’t really find any myself with better components for a better price.
I’m curious if anyone can find anything with better specs (or better value as I was trying to give some options at different price points), those are the best options I’ve been able to find. Would make me feel more confident in my recommendations, appreciate the help in advance.

Norco has the 2023 Fluid A4 for 2000$. On the lower end of specs you have listed. Equivalent build to the Instinct A10 for less. The 2023 Fluid A2 is also a decent deal but slightly outside your budget at 3.2k CAD
Both Giants look like good deals! I guess Giant bucks the somewhat standard 140mm travel trail bike and goes 150mm on the Trance X and 130mm on the Trance. Though one of those two might be perfect for what they’re looking to ride.
