Hi- first post here on this new account. I’m thinking of upgrading my bike this fall. I don’t have much of a budget because I am a student. I’m wondering if it’s better to buy a new affordable bike in September , or wait a couple years to save up for a ebike?

Where I live, e-bikes range from $1.5k to 2k whereas a nice new bike would set me back about half that. My current bike is a mystery bike I found on fb marketplace for $20 that is way too small for me and kind of falling apart at this point.

I really want an ebike for a couple reasons, but the main one is that my city is about 80% hill, and to get anywhere meaningful (work, school, fun stuff) it’s all uphill from where I live.

On the other hand, biking more frequently has improved my fitness, I bike 4.5km the other day (all uphill) and while I was tired and winded, I felt more good than exhausted.

I just fear that my fitness levels will never get to the point where commuting to work or school will ever my feasible.

My ride to school is about 5km and school is about 11km.

For context; I’m a 29 year old male, in canada, and biking is basically the only exercise I do, although I try to get some biking or walking in every day, sometimes I am way too tired!

Personally, I would save for an ebike. Have you manual bike as backup and take care of her 😉.

Why do you need an e-bike at all? You get no health benefits. Also get panniers, much cheaper than an e-bike and not top heavy like that milk box.
