Any tips for an affordable 2×10 setup? I got a shimano tiagra on my surly packrat and would like to upgrade and change to smaller chainrings in the front (now 48/34t).
Another idea would be 1×10 but I think I like to have the two in the front…….

Check eBay I’ve seen some older model 2x mtn bike set ups great for touring.
I just upgraded my packrat! I used an s-ride rear mech I picked up from Soma that has a 49 tooth capacity and is compatable with the tiagra shifters. That let me keep the 48/34 up front and swap to an 11-46 in the back. Works in big big and small small combo, though you do get a bit of chain rub in the front mech in the big-big combination. Otherwise it works great.
anyway, great bike. I freaking love my pack rat and the extra low gearing has made it even better.
