I’ve tried searching, but not found an answer as to why people making custom half frame bags often choose to have a level (horizontal) bottom from the seat tube until close to the downtube, where the bag often then kicks down to create a lower section (circled)? Is it not annoying having items fall into this bit rather than a completely level bottom to the bag?
Asking as I’m about to take the plunge of a custom bag and want to get it right!

Better support. If you went straight across (you can buy them) you have less room to attach and more likely for the bag to move around.
It’s called the bottle blocking triangle. Made to make you regret every sip.

If you’re riding around with so few things in your frame bag that things can “fall” into this area, its for the better… Where if you had a level bottom as you hypothesized, those same things would be bouncing around and sliding back and forth…
Cut or or straight across, the side load bottle cages help a lot. I like the Supacaz ones
