Hi everyone, I recently bought a used road bike, and after about 1,5 month of regular riding my chain started ticking and then skipping badly on a ride, I tried adjusting the rear derailleur 4 times but it didn’t help much. After I gave up and continued home the chain snapped on a pancake flat road (highest gear as it skipped less), one pin is missing. It might be that the chain is old and the pins they used was bad quality.
But as I ordered new chain for safety, just wanted to make sure the chainrings and casette aren’t worn too. I’m new to the game and don’t really trust local “bikeshops” if you can even call them that, so your advice would be much appreciated, along with any other thoughts on probable cause. Thx in advance
BTW the drivetrain was lubed before I just cleaned it after the chain snapped

Big and middle look abit worn, compared to small CR. Best gauge is check the wear of chain that broke. There are other ways of checking CR wear with the chain as a guide. If overly streched you would benefit from a replacement drive train i.e. cassette, chain, chainring and even jockey wheels. It is unfortunate that you dont trust your local BS. I also recommend find a store you feel comfortable in to trust there advice. Not all stores are for all people we find our stores will like minded people working there or visiting. Love my BS
