I’ve compared the two quite a lot and I can’t tell the difference… The shift gates look exactly the same on both sides, the material is the same and slayer of grams has a video with weights for both and it seems to be only the lockring weights 10 g less (Alu vs steel)… However the cs r8100 says it’s hg+ whereas the 7100 only has hg technology. On the mtb spectrum, even the deore m6100 10-51 cassette has hg + (including the 105 brother slx m7100)… So is it just marketing? Am I wasting 65€ on a ultegra cassette which is basicly just a lockring upgrade?

Nope just lighter a bit
Weight. I recently got a 105 cassette after having an Ultegra cassette and there was 20g difference on an 11-32t, 287g & 307g.
I think the spacers between the cogs are a bit lighter s as well. Otherwise functionally identical
Probably
R8100 have Hyperglide+, R7100 doesn’t. Soo R8100 will give you faster and smoother shifting.
