Bought a steel on-one inbred about 12 months ago fitted with kona p1 forks and with 650b wheels. Blasted and powder coated along with the fsa chainset. Currently running 1×10, with deore rear mech and slx brakes. Got hold of an old seized gravity dropper and gave it a rebuild. Ladies fizik saddle but who cares, if it’s comfy then it’s comfy. Cost? About £450 altogether. Rides like a dream and having come from a road background I think that this is more my scene from here on in. I may never need another bike (yeah, right!)
I’ve got a decal set to go on but might not bother. My lad has given it the name of “Black Death” haha!

Very x bike
No grip shifts!! That increases reliability.
A few years ago a buddy of mine told me his bike was going to be his brother’s first mountain bike, I told him if he bought different shifter for it than yeah it would last! He insisted on grip shift becomes ALL the bikes at walmart have them so it must be good. I explained in 9 months his gears won’t shift, the rear end scraped out in only three he paid $213 for a NEW bike and it lasted three months!
I did end up putting different shifters on it for him.
