I had to change my tyre yesterday and decided to use the fixed sprocket when fitting it. The first ride was … interesting … very unfamiliar and sometimes surprising, but somehow interesting. I will test it further. Do you have any tips on what I should pay particular attention to as a beginner?

get some straps hf
Get some decent pedal straps. You’ll get used to riding fixed quickly and it won’t feel like the bike is trying to throw you off.
Tie your shoes well! Do not let the shoelaces loose, it can curl and you get hurt seriously, at least I almost got very injured because of that
1. Foot retention is going to help you with more advanced skills like backpedaling / skids.
2. Keep both brakes on until you feel very comfortable on the bike in all conditions
3. Have fun with it, it takes a week or two to feel as confident with a fixed gear as with a freewheel.
