Marin Rift Zone 2, I think it’s a 2020.

Bottom bracket is an FSA MegaExo (OEM).

Cranks came off easy with a 10mm Allen key. Drive side of the BB came off easy, reverse threaded as expected. Left side I just can’t get off. This side should be the usual right-hand thread, yes? Turn left to remove? I bought the Park Tool BBT 69.4 for this job and I’ve literally rounded out the wrench end of it.

Do I have the wrong tool here? Or am I the tool? What am I missing?

  1. That is actually pretty amazing. Those tools normally slip off the splines and strip out the bb long before you can put enough torque on it to bust out the square drive….You must have a pretty good technique for holding the tool engaged with the BB.

I would send these pics to park tool, that may be a defective tool.

That being said, one thing that can help is heat. Pour boiling water all over the bb and shell to heat it up and then try. This will soften loctite, and loosen parts without damage to bike.

There are destructive ways to get it out but they are difficult to perform without damaging frame or paint.
