I have a “beater” downhill bike ([2018 Commencal Furious](https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Commencal/Furious-Origin-650B-Black,21032)) the rear wheel of which has seen better days. The hub is dying, and I think there’s some slight rim damage that is causing my rear tire to unmount mid-ride and lose air.
All that being said, this is a bike I maintain solely for the purpose of summer bike park laps. It’s heavy as hell and I am not very fast to begin with.
I keep looking up rear wheels and very quickly get the sense that what I’m looking at is way too expensive for what I need. My criteria:
* 27.5″
* 12mm x 150mm Axle / Hub Width
* Bang for the buck
* Will be running Cushcore
* Quiet hub
Currently running a Formula rear hub and it’s almost dead quiet, but it’s probably also beat to shit with poor engagement. I have just grown to appreciate that silence.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Definitely not i9 grades. Those rims might as well be made from celery.
Get whatever 32 hole hub you want, but lace it to a decent gravity rim (e.g. DT FR 541). Going cheap on rims on a dedicated DH bike is not cheap in the long run.
I’ve been beating the piss out of a set of [Nobl TR41](https://noblwheels.com/tr41/) rims laced to an Onyx Classic hub, on my high travel Ripmo AF. So far the rear wheel has been flawless. I detonated part of the front hub, but it’s a Vesper. The wheel had a fat wobble, but survived 10,000′ of descending on Mt. Ashland, OR with 3 spokes zip-tied in place. They are burly and silent, and the rim has a lifetime warranty.
