  1. Assuming that’s carbon, with the creaking I would bring it in to be inspected before riding it anymore. Did you buy it new or used?

    Are those cracks or defects in the layup hard to tell for me? I found with the creaking is to make sure the backplate is set properly. I’ve seen a bike where the person had the plate set flush with the top of the seat tube, when the backplate needs to be slightly above. There is a little notch on the plate that should show you…. A little fiber grip and make sure it’s tightened down to spec and I found the creeks to go away.

    These do not look like voids. These are the result of abrasion from using a scaled or non-adonized seatpost.

    Can’t entirely tell based purely on the pic but looks like some abrasions in the resin

    If you’re concerned the carbon fiber matrix is delaminating underneath, get the bike to someone who can physically inspect it. The creaking is a red flag.
