Hello English-speaking friends. I am looking online for 7-speed parts for my Brompton P line. I found this parts:

Cassette which it says it is compatible with P line wheel.

Derrailleur + chain tensioner:

Thumb shifter:

Do I need something else? All of them are H&H. Is this a reliable brand?

I also saw similar parts from brands like MiniMods, Union Jack.

I also saw this kid:

which seems to be more expensive but apparently it has the pieces I mentioned above. Am I missing something?

Or do you have a better suggestion? Please help me. Thank you.

  1. I used the same H&H cassette, but the MiniMods derailleur and chain tensioner. It’s identical looking to the H&H so I think my experiences still apply. For the shifter, I used an SRAM GX trigger shifter, which is 30% the cost of the H&H thumb shifter. If you plan on re-using the shifter cable, make sure it’ll reach with your new shifter or order a spare shifting cable. They’re cheap. You won’t need any other parts.

Both H&H and MiniMods are reliable brands. I’ve never worked with Union Jack parts, and they seem more expensive for the same parts.

Some things to note about the 7 speed upgrade for H&H/MiniMod:

    * You will not be able to back pedal on gears 1 and 2 (the largest cogs), otherwise the chain will drop a gear or two.
    * You must be cautious when folding the bike. For best performance, fold the bike in gears 3-7 so the chain line is more straight as if it were stock. Also, when the rear wheel is folded, the crank arm could strike the derailleur if not pre-positioned correctly. What I mean is, position your crank arms horizontally first and then fold the back wheel. Don’t fold the back wheel first and then try to rotate the crank arm around.
    * The smallest cog on the H&H cassette was severely digging in to the hub, and I only had it a couple months. I don’t know if it’s because the alloy they used is much stronger than the hub, but I did also upgrade my chain ring to 54t at the same time of the 7 speed upgrade so I’m producing much more torque.
    * Pay close attention to how the derailleur is installed. Refer to pictures on the BikeGang Facebook page, which has pictures of bikes with this gear installed. If you don’t install the derailleur in a specific way, you might not be able to shift to the largest cog.

If you can live with the above, the extra range it provides is real nice.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    You got this, bro.
