Hey everyone, just wanted to give you an update on my conversion from an old road bike to a fixie. I’ve decided to invest in a proper fixed cog, a 1 series chain, and straps. I used blue Loctite glue to mount the cog. Since my normal chain whip is too narrow for the cog, I tried to screw it on using the wheel and cranks. Does anyone know of other methods to do this without specialized tools? Also, are there any other adjustments I should consider making? I’ve noticed some chain play in certain areas, but I suspect it might be due to both the cog and front chainring not being perfectly round.

Look up “rotafix” for a way to tighten a cog without tools.
You should get a lock ring on that hub to keep the cog fixed in place. Looks like you are using a hub without the proper threading for a fixed lock ring. You can use a lock ring from the left side of an old English (1.37″ x 24 tpi) bottom bracket as a hokey lock ring. Consider doing some sort of thread locking compound that is more sturdy than blue loctite if you haven’t already.

Id reccomend finding a hub/wheel with threads for a fixed cog. Its incredibly dangerous to have a cog spin off and without the opposite direction threads for the lockring its not a matter of if, but when. Also, with it being a conversion do you run into pedal strike alot with the lower bottom bracket? Looks pretty nice tho
