The live stream we are in Miss Saga on the nine Creek Trail the plan for today is to ride around Miss Saga we’re going to ride to square one square one is a shopping mall or is a shopping center and and then we’re going to head back

Down to the lake and then come back to where we started we are going to be riding as much as possible on separated Trails this is Saga cycling infrastructure has yet to grow to put in nicely but they do have a work of really incredible Trails such as this one this

Is the nine Creeks Trail and so let’s stay off roads for as much as possible but we will also have to join our roads or residential well residential roads local roads but hopefully good morning we will be able to stick to separated trails for as much as for as long as we can

Can see what we can find out and discover together I don’t typically ride up to square one in Miss Saga I have never ridden my bike there so it remains to be seen how we proceed today we are going to be passing University of Toronto misago campus today and the Sheridan College

Campus as well Sheridan College campus is very close to Square 1 shopping center and then we’re going to head down towards the lake to Port Credit okay lots of people walking their dogs fantastic I walked my dog this morning she got super wet because it is super damp today The camera might not pick this up but it is also quite foggy okay let’s navigate this thank you I want to show you something so the road that we’re crossing right now okay thank you the speed limit has been lowered to 30 km an hour and the city

Installed a speed camera right here you see it face down yeah the residents here or well whoever is really unhappy about this camera and so whenever the city installs it and tries to mount it uh well the the vandals really they knock it down so that uh they can speed along

And now 30 km per 30 km speed limit road so this has been a big point of attention here the speed camera and also lowering the speed limit I’m right behind you okay thank you on the right Al pass on the right thanix all right I see more people

Highway so at this point where am I if I was going east then we need to [Applause] go this way I’m a little bit confused that’s the where I need to go right TR my sense of direction when I follow um follow my GPS is a bit odd because I just rely on instructions or the the picture I have in my mind and then I don’t um don’t focus on my orientation as much all right so where are we we started going

East and now we need to oh you know what I am going to go this way and if I go the wrong way then I’m sure I will s this on the so we’re hopping onto Indian Road are we going the right direction come on Google track me track me Google

Very once we get to missa Road we’re going to have to navigate quite a bit of construction they are widening the highway of course they’re widening the highway so they’re widening the highway in as a result there’s been a lot of construction but I uh I drove there

Yesterday to check out the area and I think it should be all right I think there is some sort of a Sidewalk separated that we can pop on so that we don’t have to mix the traffic too much hey new down here I have never driven or ridden here chat this is all need to me anyone joining from Miss Saga any Miss Saga residents in the chat let me know Thank you Jeff yeah SRA got taking care of by mechanics R following the collision and but as a result the bike has a different rear wheel a wheel with a fewer spokes so my front wheel and the original back wheel at 36 spokes touring bicycles typically have

More spokes to account for the heavier the ability to carry heavier loads and also if one of those 36 spokes breaks the impact on the wheel is not as big as if right now I have 28 spokes on the wheel so if one of those folks

Breaks the wheel is going to come out of true much quicker but you know I continued on that 20 28 spoke wheel all the way to new land from Ontario to new Landon was fine so the mechanic told me it’s not about the number spokes but rather the quality of the

Riding we need to turn left on missa road so let’s do it Miss isaga road is known for again very very expensive houses there are certain areas that that are incredibly Scenic there you go on beautiful house here behind as well so this area is not too Scenic there are other

Areas that are a lot less populated homeowners have a lot more land for each of their homes Miss Saga road is a tourist attraction in on it in its own right because of the beautiful properties so all these cars it’s possible that many of them are trying to

Get on the highway which we will be Crossing momentarily which we will be crossing under underneath momentarily and that is the Queen Elizabeth way or the qw I see the highway in front of me it’s moving and that is a miracle that highways even when well I think the

Widened Parts aren’t open yet so there’s still a fair bit of construction on the side but there’s typically a lot of traffic in this area okay there we go signs to qw torono and we are going to be going underneath the highway I’m going to try to hop on

Sidewalk oh actually let me do that here because that sidewalk is separated and then it turns into this Trail like pavement on the other side so I’m going to continue using it because I’d rather be on here than on that single Lane of Traffico very loud okay we made it to the other side and now we’re going to continue Miss Saga road all the way to buram thorb and we are going to pass at some point University of Toronto Miss Saga the campus I think I’ve only been there maybe once so I look forward to

Population so it is a sizable City Square One Shopping Center that we’re going to be riding towards is the biggest shopping center in Ontario second largest in Canada when I was looking for information about it one of the neat tips or neat facts about the shopping center they presented

Was the number of parking spaces they have number of outside parking spaces and number of heated or air controlled parking spaces I found that very funny that a number of parking spaces at a would be considered a fun fact jacking not a problem I know many

People I used to so fun fact I used to go by Agnes when I came to Canada diversity and inclusion was not a thing I was assigned my name I was assigned the name of Agnes so people said that you know agneska is going to be too hard

To pronounce your name is Agnes all right and as a teenager you know you really don’t want to stand out so I used Agnes for years never liked the name I’m sorry to anyone called Agnes that’s not my name I didn’t like it but I used it I

Final video of my Cross Canada Trip where I’m riding across the island of Newland and at one point I hit on A downhill newent has incredibly Steep and tall and Long Hills and at one point I hit 60 km when going downhill on one of these Hills this is very much comparable

To and I was riding down mountains on the ice Field Parkway in Alberta it’s amazing to be you know bombing downhill at 60 km an hour but I was also hoping for no animals to jump in front of me because that would be awful are mods going too fast no idea

Path so I didn’t bike Bridal path but I used to live in that neighborhood not on Bridal path I used to live in in the shops at Dill’s area so I used to drive through Bridal path every single day that was my Commute so yes I’ve seen Drake’s house I seen all those stunning houses those Mansions all right there you go and we are now Crossing Dundas dandas is a major road in msaga how many lanes here so at this point two lanes in this direction two lanes in that direction with a lane with

A turning lane it’s a high speed Str Road at this point pedestrians can only cross on that side not on this side why not on both sides this always confuses me why can’t we cross on both sides of the [Applause] road okay we are oh wow

Think that although it’s Associated as being polish neighborhood not too many polish businesses and people who live there anymore okay so the main tree here is Caro campus as well that’s nice very good to know about Jackie or a u of alumni there we go this is also your first time seeing

Students at parade parking in uh on campuses is very expensive I used to work as a librarian for senica senica college and very expensive to park and of course at the time I was uh I was driving full-time as the main form of transport and so I paid a ton of money for

Parking wow look at all these buildings so I just taking the outside Road for this campus tour and then we’re going to jump back on Miss Saga Road and then continue up to Burnham Thorp Burnham Thorp is an east west east west yeah East West thare it is a big

Saga’s infrastructure they have these beautiful Trails I mean there is some sort of cycling system with the painted bike Lanes but then they stop this is not something that is specific to miss Saga this also happens in Toronto where biking just stop but it’s certainly a lot more visible here because

Literally nothing not even sharrows nothing oh very bumpy so if you notice the houses on this part of Miss Saga Road are not as opulent as what we had previously seen the mansions that we had previously seen so we have just regular residential houses here in are bigger we are but

Nothing nothing that compares to the mansions that we had ridden next to okay we are now at Burnham Thorp and where that cyclist is riding that is the trail so we’re going to be hopping on that trail and not Trail is going to take us all the way to square One Marco yes I am riding my ebike if you’re interested in knowing what uh what bike the specifics of it use um exclamation mark bike in the chat so kind of has one word One phrase exclamation bike and the chatbot should be able to tell you a few more details

About the bike but basically this is the recent Muller ebike this is my main commuter right now it’s an aluminum bike 26 in Wheels I have a studed tire on the front of the bike what else it uh it is a pedal assist so the bike does not have a

Throttle I have a 500 W hour battery which should be perfectly suitable for this about 40 km ride I will have to recharge it before returning back home to tra Today there we go the lights again priority given to East West moving traffic and everybody else has to wait wow that’s quite the quite the line on the other side okay we’re going to get on the trail I have never ridden on this Trail I look forward to taking it all

The way to square one now this road is going to turn increasingly into a very very busy city road further on it’s a little bit more residential at this point but then it’s going to as we as we navigate closer to square one which is kind of considered the

Downtown of Miss Saga these suburbs really don’t have a downtown do They but that is the downtown here we go oh very nice so here’s what I see I see the separated Trail it’s most likely multi-use Trail and then there is a sidewalk right next to this Trail I don’t think this is built with accessibility in mind and that there’s

Not really a difference in there’s not really a marker that differentiates the trail from the sidewalk the surface is different but I think there should be some sort of Distinction for people who have vision loss or are blind for them to be able to distinguish and not walk on the MTI

Trail and think it’s a sidewalk all right Lio just a few businesses left in R’s belt yes yep a lot of people moved out to the suburbs I think there’s a big Polish Community in Milton now I’m not really sure but there seem to be a lot more

People being melon the reason you know my parents well and I call this Saga whole really is cu at some point in time when we immigrated to Canada Vaga was the Hub of the Polish Community I don’t think this is the case anymore but there there are a lot of churches here

There’s a lot of community places here there are stores like grocery stores with cl products but that is also changing ah the bike command is working fantastic fantastic to see jff yes my um my chat is a little bit behind and so just seeing your chats coming about coming in about

Bikan stopping yeah it’s a bit odd kind of as if you know there was a dead end to a road and good luck it’s just odd okay well I am fairly enjoying this Trail I love not having to think about not being hit by a car by a driver

Earlier on this week one of the counselors in War II in Toronto held a town hall about recycling infrastructure recycling plan that’s ton has set up I wanted to show you something before I continue so we’re in Riverwood this is cred Valley conservation and I wanted to show you this statue

Like construction do you see it oh this is very nice there’s a board an information board there let’s uh let’s find out what this is this is lovely Pine Sanctuary it’s aluminum and paint it’s Pine s which we is a permanent public art Pavilion in architectural Folly a physical a mystical enclosure

Between the scale of sculpture and building the structure invites activity from spontaneous and playful to the quiet and contemplative like its neighboring pine trees no angle or view ever repeats itself exactly so every step both inside and out prolong this prolongs the sense of Discovery wow this is

Day I’ll come and walk around or bike around the conservation area this is very Nice okay let me get back to what I was saying earlier this week counselor of War I in Toronto held a town hall on the cycling ton of cycling plan now this counselor is very antiy anti cycling and he allowed the town hall to get out of control in terms

Of how City staff who are presenting at the Town Hall were treated the heckling uh the absolute disregard for what people were saying there were cycling Advocates at the meeting who were booed HED out but the most egregious points that the counselor didn’t address and the counselor

Allowed is a man who got up to the microphone and said that when he sees cyclist on the road riding their pelaton pretending that they’re in the tour defance he wants to run them over to get them out of his way people laughed he thought he was making a

Joke but what the men was really doing was threatening threatening to use a weapon this car is weaponizing this vehicle and saying that what he wants to do is run cyclist over because they inconvenient him for a minute or two because the pelaton of riders who are moving a pretty fast speed

Probably and that are probably taking as much space as maximum two cars are an inconvenience for him so he’d run he’d like to run them over huge outcry in the community because one not only did the counselor allow for this to be said and didn’t address it um violence killing running over cyclists

Should never absolutely be supported the counselor disregarded it there’s a video of that town hall and is pathetic the attendees uh make aggressive comments about the counselor in my ward Ward three who is a new counselor and again counselor of War I War I didn’t address it didn’t stop and

Really by ways of not addressing it and allowing that kind of behavior to continue is part of the Problem so we’ll see how that is addressed by the city definitely I expect to see a lot more media articles to support the social media storm that resulted as a as a result of that town hall and as a result of that particular comment that is uh that is captured on
