This week I’ve been joined by my good mate and Isle Of Man TT legend, Dan Cooper, or “Coops” as he’s better known. This boy can properly ride a motorcycle and has some incredible stories about his days competing in the world’s scariest road race. From dodging errant sheep at 170mph, to riding with a dislocated arm – it’s proper hair-raising stuff!

We also catch up with the preparation of our Yamaha R6 race bikes, before we head to Spain, and show you some of the differences between them.

It’s a long video, but well worth a watch to get an insight into just how scary it can be to compete at the TT, the ultimate test of man and machine.

All right you do Bud yeah what’s going on like 100 Grand worth of super sport bikes out here it’s probably more than that to be fair but the uh cops came down for one video love being the center of attention and he’s back for more a

Few days I know he’s a slow bastard in his day the grayhead [ __ ] here he goes find out next week yeah find out we’ll see yeah we’ll get the Leathers on and give them a go honestly boy will roll out an old h put a set of dunlops in it and he’s

In not enough power to crash them bikes are they mate well I don’t know them new stalkers are all right but then 600s mind you I think JK’s going to JK’s going to prove us all wrong this year a he yeah you’ll do well you win you win

We smoke everybody so what’s the plan well we finished you’re late ah we’ll run through late again yeah we’ll run through what we’ve done we’ll do a recap yeah let’s let’s get through the intro oh so we have got a forklift in the background we have got on the

Forklift when you use a forklift to fix another forklift can’t couldn’t make it up so said it again we have three yam Yamaha R six is um nice two uh built by coups DCM Motorsport and mine is obviously built by OMG and Paul at PCR

And it was just to kind of show you the different ways to skin a cat um so mine’s motch M1 ECU just a Mot c125 Dash very nice and then obviously race page yeah so we’ve got uh main race page so we look at my fastest lap my lap time I’ve

Just completed my constant gain loss so like my lap Delta and I’ve got my engine braking strategy uh top one orange button uh coolant temp and then RPM and then I got my flash my flashy lights nice uh that’s my chassis page so I want

To turn the ignition on I got my chassis page so obviously got battery voltage Lambda coolant temp front suspension position rear suspens rear suspension position front brake pressure uh front wheel speed rear wheel speed my map switch uh my front sprocket my rear sprocket and my gear

Force yeah and when I start the bike up for wmart I got fuel pressure Lambda quick shift of gear Force which I just showed you throttle grip yep throttle butterfly again map switch water temp oil temp air temp oil pressure and then airbox pressure so what I would normally do on

A weekend is kill his generator cuz I got a heater on the sun trying to warm the engine up before I fire it up um so I’ve got the there’s some oil temp in it for because you’ll get this to 85° and your oil temper be like 4550 so you just got

To get your oil temper before you go track yep all right then all three have got Domino racing throttles all three have got RCS 19s so they’re control part by msvr so you’re only allowed from a list of control Parts all got span adjusters so you can as your brakes go

Off you can change it on the Fly y uh I’ve gone to a finger break this year because I found the Thum breake was rubbish um I couldn’t get enough power into it and I got little Wily thums so it works uh well we’ll see if this

Works my only worry is is that in a panic I grab this instead of the clutch that would be funny but I had it on my BMW and it was all right so I’m going for a rear finger breake then my clutch is stacked up I just need to set the levers

Up uh metatronics Loom so I mean you can see that’s my right switch gear that goes into that one that’s my Brak pot that’s my suspension pot that’s my wheel speed and then they kind of sit like that so you can see the wiring that’s the extent of the wiring loom really

That’s pretty paired back isn’t it that’s B not basic but it’s not basic it’s just BL Motorsport so that’s motortronics that’s Angus uh comm’s Port so I got a data lead that will plug into this little Port here and then so that’s how we pull a login out that’s how we

Talk to ECU that’s how we talked to the LTC that’s how we talked to the dash easy peasy uh I run a stock radiator uh mainly because we got much shorter races than the boys in proper superport in British superport but also you’ve got to control the radiators much more

Closely on a big radiator I’ll show you in a minute you got to take the RADS up and stuff and yep I’m lazy there you go carbon intake tank cover this year to try out to try and give me some more support uh new seat unit which is lower which is

The same as these so the CRC had a subframe on it which in the whole seat frame m y so I’ve tried to bring myself lower into the bike then we’ve got full of crap of it here we go y um and I’ve spent half of last season losing carbon heat

Shields which is why I’ve safety wired the bolts in uh yeah standard calipers standard Forks but with o fpr kitting Gala break discs I runs pads what do your boys run on Zs yeah they’re kind kind of the two that everyone goes for really they’re expensive no matter what you do uh

Normally t- bar discs uh but I’m on gers and then this side is not much else really I run Ka sensors pressure sensors so I’ve got brake pressure oil pressure and um quick or gear Force so it’s quick shifter one way and blipper the other way yep and then

Obviously like you can see just the auto sports that just sort of clip out of the way to do all the work uh RPS 40 rear shock whereas them boys are on TTX so if you look the shocks look slightly different so the pre the gas cartridge sits along the back of the

Shock y like that mhm and then they’ve got um 8 mil adjuster on the preload and if I go and get my special tool y uh I’ve got pneumatic preload on mine he guc he would have to have that wouldn’t he so when you’re in pit Lane you’d have

A uh a speed brace with an 8 mil socket on to do your preload on those whereas on mine you just go like so yeah and then you can wind the collar up and down which is your preload collar very neat it is Gucci in

It then you just pop it off did not go oh I’m out of gas this way uh so it’s just little nitrogen canister uh quite high pressure yeah I’m out I used it in CA testing didn’t I so I’m in the red look is probably not

Enough to lift it up but all that all that canister does is lifts the underside of the collar and then you you turn it by hand y uh so this is a through Rod shock so this is a different sort of technology to what those are um

Go which which is best uh I think it’s much of a muchness I think I could slightly feel a difference but I could feel a difference more um when the bike settled back onto the rear going into the corner yeah the caveat to that is i’ done all season on

My TTS so it might be that it was the difference I felt was the fresher shock um so would I say to anyone doing you can win British superport on that yeah yeah I wouldn’t say you need to go to this the through Rod shock a

Lot of development was done at the tte and the through Rod shocks are good at keeping oil temps down inside the damper so at the end of a six laap race or four lap race on a super sport bike the it doesn’t go to [ __ ] basically um um but

You can win well they do they win on these so TTX is what do they call them in ktech it’s uh DDS but they’ve got a through Rod hav they TRD now um when you switch over to these then you’ve got different ECU which I

Think we went into last time we so these are basically mirror images yep um so you’ve got uh metronic ECU obviously the loom is then different cuz it’s for this ECU we run pretty much the same batteries same C same engine airbox throttle bodies um coups has put rear brake

Pressure on so you come around here da so the boys run uh rear they’ve got both so they’ve got rear Pedal brake Y and they’ve got a special master cylinder that takes pressure in yeah and then lets it out okay um so that’s brake pressure that’s the fun

Brake in this bottom one and that’s to the caliper out so I don’t run a rear pedal at all I’ve just got the foot Peg I don’t run a pedal but he done both the same so then you’ve got Thun brake up here yeah so some Riders prefer fun brake to a finger

Brake then obviously the switch gear to control the dash which we go through in a minute clutch like normal their dampers across the frame or across the headstock whereas mine runs up and down the side yep same again on this side RDS spider clipons brake pressure and then

The lines come down like normal uh span adjuster uh whereas my power switch is done off the red button here yep uh these have got an onoff switch up top so that switches the dash on yeah turn it off you see it come on so see the ECU Master Dash but they got

2D login in behind Dash like normal you’ve obviously got gear position RPM engine temp uh last lap best lap I don’t really know the gain loss on these ah so across the top there you go says loss and gain sort of climb across the page yep uh then if we go to chassis

Page no red one um then the black one then the black one so again the same sort of thing when you warming warming the bike G you’ve obviously got throttle grip uh engine coolant temp air temp battery voltage TPS lamb front brake uh front wheel speed rear wheel speed uh rear brake Fork

Travel rear shock uh shift force uh GPS SATs parametric pressure uh so because cops is running uh 2D front and rear tire temp and pressure it will pick it up so it’ll do tire temps front and rear oil pressure oil temp both of them are reading 100 so we just got to check

Whether the oil temp sensors are plugged in fuel pressure and then front pressure front and rear um so these have got 2D uh TPMS sensors fitted so the the dashes look quite a bit different but both a lot of money when you put them through the gravel uh these have got Factory

Radiators so gytr radiators yep and then carbon Scoops so if you look from the front are you rely on my fairing to do the work but these have got the proper sort of World Super sport spec radiator shrouds yep so that’s pretty they’re pretty trick they’re pretty so

You’ve got the tank but breather tank on one side for the fuel tank and then this side’s coolant reservoir tank look so just link over yeah and then if you look at the bottom if you look you can see the headers behind my front wheel yep

And then if you look at these look you can see the secondary rad oh yeah so the radiator is massively different again it’s just a baby compared yeah it’s a it’s a lot of money um 10 car I do a little mod so on these it comes out

Of the cooler comes out of the heat exchanger for the oil yeah cuz these don’t have an oil radiator and then it brings it back up to the rad 10 Carter do a mod for mine where they bring it up off the heat exchanger

And then into the return h y and it just takes if you think the coolant coming out of the water pump going through the heat exchanger and then into the engine yeah this just splits it off so it doesn’t put that hot coolant into the engine and it’s more efficient cool in the

Engine so I’ll will probably change mine it will change that top blue hose yeah and then it’ll basically it will come out of the heat exchanger and tee into that and it just takes a lot of the load off the engine or engine coolant but yeah and then lots of it you

Can see sort of quite similar he’s running carbon frame guards but the rest of it is quite similar you you’re on fkrs as well yes we’re on same front for kits so would be interesting so we’re all off to Spain next week um so it’ll be quite interesting to

See wow Carter’s quick Carter is quick so see how they all compare yeah yeah yeah yeah so the bits we sorted last week when you saw us was we sorted his oil um his oil pressure sensor for him M so we’ve sorted that so we just made a

Reconnected it with a DTM 4 pin DTM and joined that up then obviously swapped the oil pressure sensor for a 5vt sensor so that’s a Dela unit so we’ve done that fixed his switch gear wiring so that’s a main power switch so we sorted that so that’s the same as the

Other side now that’s the same as on that yeah uh wolf at uh M redo sorted out his connectors for his Dash and his switch gear cuz remember in the last video all the switch gear stuff was different so wilf’s made all the adapters for those so they’re all done

What was the other thing we did rear brake and rear suspension W it yeah so Angus at metatronics made him these two adapters so one’s rear pot and one’s different brake pressure sensors and they go into the loom so he’s got some spares as well but you can

See that’s obviously the loom to run with metronic the just a one siiz fits all mhm and that’s a custom made Motorsport Loom so you can see how much less yeah there is to so if you want to lift the whole front assembly of my bike off you come down here

DAV you undo that connector there that one Auto Sport you see it mhm yeah you want to do the four bolts there and then you can lift the whole section of the bike off oh wow right whereas this you have all that Loom hanging down

Off the side of the bike same with the airbox on mine lift the airbox off and the throttle bodies it’s all Su blooms right so it all breaks down simple yes just a lot of monies yeah but yeah I mean that’s the next you could spend it on these so what about

Weight these bikes how do they compare weight yeah should be pretty close they’re hard to get on a weight limit they are hard to get on a weight limit um because you’re limited to what you can do you’re not allowed to change Wheels uh so you can’t run carbon you’re

Not allowed to run Carbon wheels anyway but you can’t change you can’t change wheels so then you start getting into the trick bolts you see everywhere we drill the center of bolts out of certain things and to try and get weight out what using titanium bolts and tie bolts

Or yeah alley where you can on a fairings uh we run carbon front intake yeah and I run an aluminum clock bracket but I have got stay there that’s full carbon fiber front clock bracket so it takes away this even this yeah which is metal

Um the only reason I haven’t run it yet is it’s got It’s got a crack in the top so I need to get that repaired but that’s full air intake scoop very nice so that would replace the motor motor well they motor Breakers is they your Fe

No the FEA that’s motor holders um I’ve got a different subframe to him so I run the motor holder subframe because they’ve had to oh you haven’t even done it on yours yet have you what’s that you’re not you’re not really allowed to cut a hole

In the subframe are you yeah I’ve got them shot cices that rotate yeah so what a lot of people do is if you can see mine look you can see my Top Shot mount bolt you see it there through there yeah so all all I do is I just put a socket

Through a socket through there to get that bolt undone yeah you’re not allowed to modify people do but you you’re not allowed to modify the frame y so what a lot of people do is cut a hole here so they can get on the bracket for the Top

Shot what coops is saying is his top clavis is on a bearing so when they’ve undone the bottom of the shock the shock can turn they can twist the shock and then get on the bolt this way right um yeah it’s do you want to spend 500 quid changing that subframe so you

Haven’t got to do that um but also these snap right cuz they cast aluminum and they Bend so you can kind of straighten them back out again but what’s um what power are these running is it uh you haven’t been on dno yet have you no um well mine did 146

Right okay um so that’s just been refreshed and running PCR so yeah that did 146 on their dyo so same as basically it’s the same spec as what they run for Casey o’ Gorman cuz they do all the engine builds for OMG y basically that is Casey’s bike from

Donington last year um a friend of mine is actually bought Casey’s bike right so yeah she was quite cool now we just got to learn to ride it Daniel yeah we’ll do that that’s the easy part yeah and then like little things what what Fair in kit you use on yours

Then mot car your mot carbons right so I’m CRC fronts and he’s mot carbons which are all through 10 car but I don’t have fairing brackets in the side whereas he’s got clipping fairing brackets look so mine bolt into thatle I might get rid of them actually mine bolt

Into the hole and he runs those little little brackets um to build one of these to the spec these are I think you I think you’re talking 50 50 yeah wow yeah if I just shout some numbers out the exhaust 2500 quid uh I I know those radiat are fre

Grand I think it’s another 600 Quid for the rad shroud it’s probably 2 and a half grand for that shock it’s five grand for that shock it’s two grand for the fork internals uh with motch it’s 10 to 12 grand for the electronics easy peasy

Um b m yeah cuz you got GTR Bell Mavs have you in the tank so yeah two G for Bell Mavs I think I’ve I have got Bell Mavs they just not GTR ones they’re OMG ones um then you’re talking ,000 for fairing kit by the time you put pegs

Clipons lift stands front axle protectors bar ends not even what’s a set of discs now 5 600 yeah add the pads pads are like 200 quid a set per caliper so you’re grand into breakes um yeah I mean foot rests are what where long gone the days M being

200 quid now a’t they like 4 500 quid set of clipons yeah hose K you know yeah sprockets yeah what is standard on my bike radiator frame and the wheels yeah Wheels yeah it’s a serious build oh godam yeah yeah yeah but it’s this is why so my

Friend that bought um uh Casey’s bike off OMG he had a [ __ ] steal and we were chatting for a while and I was like just buy it just buy it just buy it cuz it is overkill that is overkill for me George’s bike last year that he kicked

My ass on was way less spec than that yeah so it’s not what it is it’s how you ride it but the money pulls this is that my friend who’s bought Casey’s bike his name is Paul the money he spent buying that bike is less than what it would

Cost him to build a stalker yeah no bra yeah and if he’s if there’s bits in it that are too trick for him you take it off you start making your money back yeah um I mean what do you reckon now to build well here you go you you built

Your last stock thousand B built with your BMW what’ you reckon you spent building that 40 with the wheels and that by the time you got the wheels Wheels it was I think it was about 30 just about 30 grand to build the bike and then obviously you

Need Wheels but you think 30 gr cuz you had uh kit Electronics on yours as well that’s seven Grand then you need to pay a bloke to to run it to run it that was a thing that held me back on my BMW was the electronics I raced Craig NE at Alon

And the right left at hies and then the right to go up the hill that right you can’t touch a throttle and hard on the gas cuz it just pulls the traction out but I mean like George now’s got that Honda to build that that’s 35 40 Grand in it kit Electronics full

Exhaust well the bike’s the bike’s over 20 as a road bike is it so you know you soon get over to you soon get over 30 grand don’t you it’s not it’s not hard to do it now is it and then you sort of say BB bikes 150 Grand and people go

Yeah but ow cuz a BSB bike the only thing you keep frame literally throw everything else it yeah even that though isn’t standard how does that compared to Moto GP next level then what of price are they millions millions be because what people forget as well is like if you

Went to say OMG and or and went right build me a bike that’s going to be the price but what everybody forgets is and like what you’ve had to do with these is the development of the little brackets this little piece here that little bit there you got to make bits for your

Regular is so with M GP it’s the same it’s not the product it’s the development everything’s purpose built nothing’s off the shelf you don’t you don’t ring up no like Argos and say oh yeah I need this you this you got to it’s all got to be made I suppose yeah

Yeah and then everything well they change an you go and buy a used M GP bike it’ll be nothing like the bike on the grid and it’ be a million quid and then what you going through every race obv you doing tires brakes what how how how much you get out of it

How much should you get out of it uh well that comes down to how much you want to be at the front yeah because what’s a tire allocation for super we worked out that our team probably spend about 880,000 quid in tires for the two Riders this year

Well if you use all the allocation seven seven pairs something like yeah six I think it’s six re and five front 380 quid a pair now but yeah we’ve worked out with the testing and the bits and pieces it’s works out at around 40,000 each rider for the tires

To go round in circles yeah and that’s a hobby cuz they ain’t getting paid to do that no you know what I mean no there’s like what 10 people on the grid at BSB getting money out of the game yeah so everybody else is a hobby everybody else

Is telling you that they’re getting paid full of [ __ ] full of [ __ ] yeah yeah if you want to if you want to ride 75 grand to go and ride super sport bike that’s where it starts I had Richard Kerr Richard Kerr rang me Thursday wanting to come to Spain and uh

I said to what are you doing this season he says I don’t know yet he says I got 50 Grand in sponsorship bearing in mind he’s the superstock champ champion and he’s got 50,000 and it’s not enough to get himself a roow well that’s a champion and he is fast yeah he’s fast

He’s fast and he can’t get a roid he needs another he says he needs 80 between 80 and 100 Grand but then to go and ride where cuz that’s the next thing is it if me and you were going to like go and drop 80

Bags on a ride which we we never would no who you want to go and ride for well that’s the thing it who you going to give that money to cuz let’s be honest Richard Richard run himself last year didn’t he really it was AMD s of team

Yeah yeah he he had the right people around him Billy McConnell pretty much built his own team all right ly rode for what was that Optimum yeah but there it’s not like you’re paying to even go in a super bike garage and no no no no well no Superbike team runs a Stocker

Out they uh Hawk were probably the last ones they were running like um oh Tom Warden at the back Leon jco stuff like that yeah yes sir it’s a lot of money for not a lot of rewards nothing nothing no prize money no glory well look at that stock thousand champion won the

Championship didn’t get a ride can’t get himself a ride and because of how it ended last year with all that bollocks of the ever bike didn’t get a celebrate on his cooldown lap didn’t get to go on a Podium for his championship didn’t get in a photo for the end of

Season there’s nothing he might have a 20 quid trophy me Tim pot trophy a pot yeah a pot a big enough to fill with piss is it I think that’s wrapped up I tell you what what you built enough TT bikes cuz after your crash at in Northwest I’ve V

Never to build a bike for someone on the roads again how would you build these different if you going to TTA they’re not massively different no you know what I mean uh there’s not a lot of you know obviously you have to think about ground clearances and stuff

You know they do get a bit of a hammer in through the bottom of bagaro and stuff like that you got to watch H smash the S of bagaro didn’t yeah yeah but I mean there’s not a lot you can do about that was like one of those things that’s

Like it’ll happen once out of John once in a blue Mo there’s nothing yeah he’s obviously just maybe just loaded it up going in too much or there’s nothing you know you obviously check you’re a bit more conscious of checking you not that you don’t check everything anyway but you know lockwire

Certain things just for a bit of extra safety so over say British racing then because obviously you did BSB stock British superport and you go and do the roads yeah you leave BR at you load the bike in a van you drive to the island

Man what would you do before you or what would you have to do for scrutineer in um you’ve got to change normally you run a bigger capacity tank so that you can make it two laps cuz obviously it’s always doesn’t matter which bike you’re on it’s always like fuel is a worry yeah

Like you’re cuz the new Hondas now the tanks are up here is they they half tanks yeah like a maraki tank I think I think they’re maraki the Honda ones I think they’re like three 300,000 quid for a tank for one of those well I got a

Tank for that I got a TT tank for this in the office and when I had it I wrote it the bike felt more comfortable it was out here yeah but the new Honda now cuz I was up with pause the other week and they’re getting James’s bikes ready the

Tank finishes like a beer yeah to get get the thing in so new tank for the fuel is there any weird things that scrutineers make you do that wouldn’t have to do it for you have to have like Brea there’s certain things like they they want like a one-way valve on any

Any bavs yeah they they like to have oneway valves on them to just yeah so like that I mean it it’s yeah I mean I remember the one year at the TT we were really pushed on fuel like having a capacity in in the fuel tank so what we

Actually did was filled the did you yeah we filled that up with fuel so that once the fuel went in the tank it would suck that yeah that was was like that was one of his little things we little things like that about it no Al H you know bless him

But like obviously you wouldn’t have been able to run one of them cuz that if you had that on there it would haveed well the valve was the wrong way see I mean yeah yeah or whatever so there’s um little things like that but yeah to be

Honest if I was building a bike for the TT or bike for BSB there’s not a lot of different I don’t think there’s massive you know it’s the fuel in is the the main thing obviously you run you’d know more about that but fueling wise youd probably run

A different strategy because of the high yeah cuz you go over the mountain but also your sack 100% throttle for a long time long time forget that the air temperature humidity all changes as you go around a track you go below sea level in some place

Yeah and then what are you at top like yeah you’re on a mountain it can be foggy up there it can be snowing you know so all that to consider when you’re setting the bike up so what would you do suspension wise same again it’s not is it a world

Apart cuz everyone no it’s not you the faster you go the more you want it like a be like a a short circuit to a certain degree I found you do change the valve in the valve in is slightly different to accommodate for the bumps and stuff the

Way it sort of travels through the stroke I think you change it slightly for that um cuz people would think you’d want it super super soft but this is something me and Jordan were talking about the other day like why Supercross bikes are so stiff because if you let

The bike load too much you’re off the front of it it’s just going to kick you out the seat so actually thing I found with like with my 600 at the AR man it was very much like I rode it at the man like I was racing it around br’s atch I

Was trying to screw every last little bit out of it you know whereas the big bike I found that I had to it was the case of just getting it to track the road right and make sure it would H like in a straight line because if if they’re

Yeah because if they’re if they don’t handle quite right it’s just so fast it just sends it into a tank slaper you I mean you you need it to track the road yeah that’s the that’s the biggest battle with a thousand is you just want it to be comfortable so that you can

Actually ride it for six laps no half a lap you know cuz there’s places riding at 50 60 MPH on that it’s so bumpy especially as you come into ramsy yeah yeah that bit is really bumping what are you you off the seat yeah you stand up

You sort of stand up on the pegs and let the bike dance around underneath you to a certain degree do you know what I mean if you sit if you sit on the on the seat your back’s in tatters by the time you know what I mean you’ve got to sort of

Let your let your legs and your knees be a bit of a shock absorber to to take some of the bumps out you know so and what was your fastest 128 M hour so when you see hickey doing a 136 yeah W yeah it’s just another level he it’s just uh he’s

Racing like he’s racing round BR yeah yeah they’re pushing right to the Limit there’s so many photos that have started to come out now where he’s drifting through corners yeah he’s very yeah but Dunlop him and Dunlop I would say him Dunlop and Harrison are in a different

League do you think them two have made another step over Dino I think Dean’s cowasaki last year probably wasn’t the fastest I think this year onight yeah I think I think this year I think he will he will be more of a contender you know um but yeah I don’t I

Can’t see anybody beating one of those three I I don’t I don’t see anybody taking it to to any well look at that James has done the fastest ever lap on Yamaha R the island man at 134 and didn’t get mentioned yeah yeah yeah that’s the yeah yeah if you if you’re

Not doing 135 plus you ain’t going to win you ain’t going to win the Super race what did DL do on a 600 [ __ ] me that’s 130 yeah on a 600 yeah yeah yeah yeah 130 on a on an R six yeah yeah like to be on me yeah so where’s the scariest

Place uh scariest I didn’t like bagaro really that was my every time I got through there I’d be like oh thank God for that don’t have to do that for another lap cuz it was just you never when you’ve hit the bottom of it it sort of sends

The bike as soon as the as soon as the bike hits the bottom it then automatically sends it across to the other side of the road yeah so and you always you always feel a little bit out of control it sort of yeah I didn’t I

Didn’t like that I didn’t like that part the rest of it was fine but that was almost and some of the big jumps you get like Crosby jump or balak cry jump I mean I don’t like jumping motorcross bike so Road it wasn’t it wasn’t the nicest

So if if we took you there now like I think everybody even on short circuits I think there’s places or markers where you’d be like if it does this at this point I know I’m in a window so is there places at a TT where you’d be like cuz

You can’t set it up for every corner you just you just can’t so is there a place where you would go through it and then go yeah I’m that’s about right do you know you know what I mean through um uh so like Glenn Helen there’s like lots of changes of direction through

There so you sort of want it to cuz even though there’s lots of changes and it’s it’s one of the slower parts of the track almost it’s still like fast you know what I mean so like if it’s not changing direction through there like that can be hard work yeah um the Mountain’s

Like fairly easy it’s more like short circuit you can see through the corners it’s even though you’re going over the mountain it’s fairly flat obvious the rise is steep but then once you get to the top it’s you know it there’s no jumps or there’s you know there’s no

Nothing to really worry about as such you know I think that’s probably the place if you sected out the track that’s where everybody’s the closest it’s from Waterworks up over the top because it’s once you’ve got the speed going as long as you can carry the speed it’s the

Thing the difference I think of speaking to uh Jamie coward sort of guys the other day and they were saying that the difference between like Hickman and Dunlop and the rest is the first sector yeah you know they go off the line and they break them they put 10 seconds into

The rest of by time they get to Glenn Ellen they put 10 seconds in that’s always been a dino thing wasn’t it Dino was always P1 at Glenn Ellen always always always and this year when mcin was winning all his races he would break them into the in the first sector like

You know and I think that’s I think that’s where the rest of them have got to you got to you know you don’t get a warm-up lap no you’re at at the TT there’s no warm-up lap there’s no sighting lap you set off and you’re into

The race you know what I mean so you got to I think if you want to be the best I think that’s where they you that’s where they’ve got to find it like you know and where was the highest place you started number one you started P1 yeah yeah do

You not [ __ ] yourself yeah I didn’t like it cuz it’s weird like when you going number one you there’s leaves on the track you know what I mean like you see things like you’ll see rabbits in the in the road and out yeah you’re the scare you are the the Scarecrow like

You know you do there’s things that you see that you wouldn’t see if you set off number 10 you know and it’s I didn’t like it to don’t me wrong it was 11 an experience being sat on the grid and doing it all but once I set off I didn’t

Really like it it was a bit of a some people like it like mcginness he used to love it yeah get off on your own um but it wasn’t it wasn’t for me really what race was that in that was a super twin race it was only the little one only a

Little bike but yeah it was yeah it wasn’t ideal I didn’t I didn’t enjoy it that much I like to be I like to have something that someone to Chase or something you know if you if you set off at a TT and you get and you you do quite

You know you’re on it straight away when you come out of Union Mills you can see the person who set off 10 seconds in front you can see them up the road whereas if you don’t go through that per you can’t see them so you but if you do

See them it’s like like a carrot you’re like oh come on and we’ve done all right you you push on a bit more cuz you see it so much don’t you where someone will I don’t know say four and five five will catch up to four and pass him and

Then three laps later Four’s still on number five’s ass yeah where like you got him tow I’ve done a six lap race around there and not seen us all yeah because the person in front of me just aged a little bit in front of me and I’ve pulled away from the person

Behind me so I’ve I’ve done six laps hour and 3 quarters race and not seen a single bike apart from in the pit and that’s mental could you imagine going short circuit racing and doing a 10 laap Race and leading what is it how many miles well it’s

37.7 so 40 * 6 roughly and it 12 miles off that yeah 6 62 240 M 240 miles and not see us s yeah yeah yeah strange very strange have you ever had that race where you’re like I got I got to [ __ ] get off this

Thing yeah I raced the Classic Bike an old Max Norton and the exhaust bracket had snapped and I think it snapped at the end of lap one and I held the whole held it up with my foot for the whole race and finished the race and I

Finished second yeah yeah but you were like get me off this yeah but and yeah cuz cuz they cuz they’re so old they vibrate so much when you get off of it you can’t feel your hands your feet nothing it’s just all tingling cuz the vibration for that long yeah and how

Many laps you do it was a four lap three lap or four laps yeah I can’t remember it might have been four laps I can’t remember yeah it was yeah there that wasn’t that wasn’t great trying to race like at the front and hold the exhaust

Up with your foot you know cuz you’re like you we when you put that much effort into something if you think that you can do well do something to make you know you know for the sake of holding it up with your foot you do it don’t you

You know what I mean you know I don’t know might sound stupid to some people you know some a lot of people probably knock it on the Ed and just pull in but you sort of like you put the effort in it’s a big race you know you want to do

Well so you try and make the difference well we’ve had I’ve had footpegs come loose or snap off in your hand or your Bar’s gone away from you and you just kind of ride around it don’t you yeah yeah cuz your I had my shoulder i’ done

A six laap Super bite race I was halfway around the last lap going through uh Kurt Michael and the I had a bit of a tank slapper and it popped my shoulder out so I pulled over put it back in and then finish the race because I was not

I’ done five and a half laps of the race I was like I am not finish I am finishing this race you know what I mean so I just cuz I’m used to it being coming out so I popped it back in and finished I think I finished 14th and uh

I out was a super B it was the first Super Boat Race finished 14th so that was all right disate shoulder yeah popped out put it back in the Marshall was like what are you doing I was like and put my shoulder back in he’s like

You sure I was like yeah yeah put it back in put me outfit back on got going again so yeah so you if you want a British Championship would you give that up for a TT a big TT win yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah TT is the ultimate is it you

It’s like like I got I got my British championship trophy and I got my TT trophies my replicas I think my best finish was fourth fourth in a proper TT race yeah they mean more to me than my British Championship meant to yeah cuz it’s I

Don’t know it’s the risk and it it’s everything it’s the ultimate test really yeah so yeah what you do the Honda the Honda we built you done a 124 R didn’t you the little 64 yeah M yeah yeah on 600 which is probably I’m probably more

Proud of that than I am the 128 on the big bike because now they’re doing yeah they’re 8 mph faster big I mean whereas to be honest if you can do 124 on a little bike on a 600 now you’re still going to be probably in the top 10 just

Do you know what I mean because it there’s not many people that can ride a little bike that hard yeah you really got to ride it hard like you know there’s like cuz that was a year you went Privateer Championship there yeah so yeah it’s to do 120 M hour on a 600

Is fairly easy well you know I could probably jump back on one now and go do 120 but then to start finding a the ne next couple of 10 seconds you know it’s it’s a bit hard a lot you know cuz I I remember you in that you that for that

Weekend the One race you were in I had taken my lad Jack out on his little Strider and Ali days boy Harrison H sorry Lawson they were on their Striders and we went to shop and got sweets and we sat in the park under a tree house in

The rain listening to your race all right cuz that was a Honda yeah and it was like obviously we built that didn’t we we done the triumphs yeah yeah yeah and I’ve had people who want stuff sit and I’m like I’m not building any more stuff a road after your crashes at

Northwest yeah yeah yeah yeah cuz I think cuz I saw on a Telly as well that was horrible don’t not literally crashed and they just cut the TV off what was going on therez it it was you and um Fara chasing well you r on his ass for

The lead weren you yeah yeah we B for the lead and yeah he lost a front in front of me and I had knowwhere to go and just straight over yeah not decided to follow Ryan farer around no I don’t think it’s over anyone I thought discount hilia back there in third

Depending on how they get the run out down oh my goodness me that was both of them Ryan went down yeah and then uh poor Malachi had the exactly same crash on Saturday and obviously he died yeah so I was very lucky very cuz what year was that very uh 18 2018 17

Cuz you missed the TT then didn’t you no no I went to TT yeah I still went to is that your last year at TT then yeah it must have been cuz 19 yeah yeah cuz that wasn’t that was a bad year that was it yeah cuz you said now your hair still

Stand up on your neck when you he a bing bong yeah yeah yeah you do like yeah they put a they done like a recording of it I think um Gary uh who’s who runs the TT you know from the ACU he’ done like a

A recording of you know what he would do you know comes over the paddock bing bong and you and every time you it it like sends a cuz you nor it’s normally like of 5 minutes start like you know 5 minutes to the start of the race and

Then you obviously start getting even more nervous and stuff so yeah it does send a bit of a shiver down your SPO when you hear that stuff like that but it’s yeah it’s um I wouldn’t change it for the world it’s best thing I ever done like you know on a motorbike this

The I’m glad I don’t do it now but I’m glad I did it was it the boys that made you stop yeah just yeah he you think it kind of run Yeah you sort of like I had two or three big crashes that weren’t my

Fault and you just it makes you look at stuff differently you just think next time it could bite do you know what I mean like how many times can you roll the dice before it has you you know so I just sat and thought you know

I’ve done 10 years of it I’ve done all right at it I’ve enjoyed it I haven’t earned myself that’s it let’s get let’s knock it on the head cuz a lot of people can’t knock it on the Ed that’s it’s a drug like you well everybody always said

Guy Martin was going to kill himself there wasn’t he and he he sort of for him to come away and say that’s enough now yeah yeah yeah over something not right there and he’s neutral and he’s off guy Martin oh guy Martin is down in a big way through

Dorren bend it looks like Steve very fast place to jump off the bike there’s a lot of riders there that are still going around that you know reality probably you know you just think why don’t you just give it up like you know you’ve done it for a long time done

Really well just take up commentating or something you know I I think the hard I think the hard is Kate doesn’t like me racing but that was always always off the table and I don’t regret not doing it but I always would love to have done it do you know

Do you know what I mean I’m not satting now going oh I wish I’d race TT cuz I don’t but there’s something about it if you race bikes there something about it they just yeah yeah guess some I don’t to do cook town is way

Worse for me than the TT yeah when you look at that yeah I’ve done the cook town like and that was like you’re going along you know you go you go up one section and you’re going past the farm and they’ve literally there’s mud across the road and they haven’t they haven’t

Swept it they haven’t like had a a road sweeper on it nothing it’s just like which just [ __ ] everywhere all across the road and you’re racing through it like you know it but people don’t pure road racing it’s l like we’ll make a track there let’s go they don’t really

Prepare it at all that’s proper fullon road racing and it’s I I don’t know I just I think over the years me and you have lost people we know there and it does get a bad rep yeah but you talk to any bike racer and it’s just something

Else is it especially if you’ve been there and done it like yeah yeah it’s uh there’s nothing else that will replicate it is there nothing’s a reason M GP rid sit in the bushes watching it happen with [ __ ] a on their face a’t there yeah the only equivalent to it is I

Suppose is like on the off-road version is probably like the dhar a it dhar is the same sort of thing like you know you’re on your own but apart from that there’s nothing I mean there’s not a car race that’s like that is there really uh no you’d say the

Closest sort of riskwise would probably rallying yeah but even then it’s it’s not it isn’t the same no or D you know you talking we went to Spain last year and I was chatting to James from him doing Dhaka and you you sort of listen to him

Chatting and what he had to go through there there and prepping the bike on his own and the night times and then he come back to TT and he was like not it was a dole but the mental side of the Dakar he says it’s way harder than the TT yeah

Yeah yeah was a lot a lot longer event as well he was he was getting back and like he hurt himself yeah and then he’s got to do his own bike you can’t just like hand it to a mechanic he’s got to give it to do himself like a three a 300

Km stage but a 200 km ride to the stage a 300 km stage and then 200 km riding to the next people don’t see that on the TV when you’re watching on the TV don’t realize that they got a ride one day was 900 km on a bike and he goes when he

Crashed and he hurt himself they took him to the end of the stage and then they’re like no no no no no you haven’t finished the stage you want to do tomorrow you’ve got to go back to the beginning and get here on your own and yeah yeah he brought he has

James brought a book out you have to have a but he’s brought a book out about it yeah but chatting to him he’s like and you know what he’s like anyway he’s just so chilled out but I think it um I think you’re different like you

Think of all the people we know ride the road they’re not like British Lads they’re not full of [ __ ] they’re not bulli no it’s very it’s very it’s more Raw it’s very there’s no [ __ ] involved it it’s very much like that’s why I liked it really cuz it

Was you know you get people that turn up with their bike in the back of the van they pull it out and they go you know what I mean they don’t there’s no they’re not wor about what their image looks like they’re there to race a bike

You know what I mean there’s a little bit of a difference whereas a lot of it at the short circuit is all about what it looks like rather than how it goes yeah yeah and uh like last year me and George raced Jimmy hind he ain’t on

Socials no you can’t find him on Facebook you can’t find him on in because I like Tred to rate message him after One race there in Wild UNM we didn’t catch up each other and there’s none of this whereas you got Club Riders who are [ __ ] bombing around in 15th

Who were like taking photos of [ __ ] yeah but you think they’ just won Bri Championship yeah yeah yeah it’s a load of [ __ ] is it yeah yeah and I’d rather be last doing PBS yeah yeah than slow winning races but I don’t know that’s what I like about it is the challenge

It’s a it’s a it’s a challenge and when you complete it even if you know even the lad who finishes last at a TT he still done it he’s done it he’s prepared his bike he’s sat on that start line he’s done the artist race on planet for

And he’s finished it do you know what I mean he’s and he gets clapped in by the us just as much as the winner does you know everyone the people that are watching it appreciate what’s what they’ve just been through lot you know so cuz you’re who you run in at TT this

Year is it David Brook Again David Brooke again yeah yeah so it should be quite good yeah right he’s uh he’s only done a couple of years on the you know road racing so he’s sort of still learning but he’s doing it the right way nice and

Steady you know nothing he’s not trying to break the that record you know trying to put himself in the Hedge he’s just yeah yeah we’re good this is like why I come racing with you cuz if I had to do it on my own it’s so it’s hard work but

The experience you’ve got yeah yeah that’s you know you got when you’ve done it for so long like think me wrong I wasn’t like the fastest but I done it for a long time and I you sort of get to know the right people that yeah to learn

From cuz there’s a lot of people who you don’t want to be learning from you know what I mean so you sort of get to know the right people and you you know just it’s just experience is it race all over really so but it’s like house I think as

Well like your calmness you can’t bite the screen there can you you can’t push harder and you can’t push be like we’re a short circuit you can push harder and crash or go slower yeah if you try too hard at the TT you almost go you know

You sort of go slower like you come in and practice and you think oh yeah that’s going to be a really good lap and you look at the time sheets like oh [ __ ] yeah you know and then when you go out and like just chill and just enjoy it

You come in and you’re like cool that was a good lapt that you know yeah yeah all changes right let you go mate finish your finish off i’ got to go stick stickers on now that’s the next job stick stickers on I just got to do

Everything I fixed yours I just got to do mine now yeah he’s fixed fixed mine he just got all right get them loaded Saturday yeah this time next week we’ll be in Spain so sweet yeah give the guys a follow uh so it’s what’s the JD Motorsport and then on Instagram

You’re Dan Cooper Motorsport so give guys a follow and yeah the life of a TT racer eh never believe every yeah everyone thinks it’s wow well I’m known him years and years but yeah it’s not it’s not fast it’s not as flash as people think as it

It’s literally no it’s quite yeah wow yeah it’s a different type of person yeah it is a little it’s more raw and it it’s more I don’t know it’s just parked up on mud Yeah well yeah it’s just yeah there’s just no [ __ ] do you know

What I mean you just I don’t know you just they send you off and you’re off ain’t you do you know what I mean it’s just well the fact that you don’t get a warm-up lab you you’re just you’re off Ain you out of bed in the morning yeah

Yeah you go from 0 mph to 180 in less than 30 seconds yeah you know what I mean yeah between brick walls and hedges yeah that sums it up for me well that’s perfect quote there yeah yeah yeah yeah you don’t well you don’t do you as fast as it goes off

Down it’s as fast as it goes yeah yeah yeah like yeah you don’t set even on a big bike like you’re Full Throttle you know off the start like when you go through on a flying lap it’s probably not you know you don’t you know on a 600

On a flying lap you don’t even let off going down but you I mean just literally behind the screen just you know so that’s like yeah well they used to have a they used to have a uh opposite the grand stand on the start line they had a a little speed trap

Display yeah speed trap so that people in the grand s can see and dad said he used to see me coming through and it’d be 170 mph well you ain’t even hit the top of bra Hill yet see what I mean so you just when you

Go past the start line you’re doing 170 and then you still got like another I know quarter of a mile before you go down bra and then you’re going to accelerate even more and people forget before you get to Brill you jump cross yeah you’re off the floor a you at an

Angle yeah yeah yeah you don’t you lean over you you it’s a left hand King so you sort of like yeah so yeah it does like I love it and I but it [ __ ] baffles me how it’s legal well it wouldn’t like it wouldn’t if they if

History if they decided they wanted to make a race around Swindon today or tomorrow it would physically wouldn’t happen white races and stuff like that it’s never happened didn’t they yeah it would never would never happen like you know it’s only because it’s so it’s got so much history to it and

It’s happened for so long that they let it carry on I suppose it was a really interesting podcast on chasing a racing by um the clar of the course I can’t think of his name is it Gary thp and he goes on about that and they sort of go

There’s prohibited areas and extremely prohibited areas like the outside of agaro like you’re not not even allow a breathe near there because of how dangerous it is and he said the same they asked him what do you think will kill a TT and goes it’s a bike in the

Crowd yeah if bike goes into a crowd and kills yeah yeah do you remember when Johnny how put his bike through a ice cream truck at the bottom of bra yeah it’s from we landed and someone’s from uh living room yeah and you’re like you you can’t the rawness of it is

A fact that you can lean on the bank in on the exit of [ __ ] Craig naar and have a bike pass you at 180 mph yeah yeah but that’s also a high side out of Craig and that bike goes over the wall and someone’s

Last year at the TT I went to watch it uh going into blaf bridge and um oh you said yeah yeah and uh we look around and there was two baby sheep Lambs in the in the road running around in the road and they were in yeah they were in the breaking

Area you know bearing in mind before that through Bishop’s call and that it’s flat stick on a super bike so you’re doing 170 180 mph through there and then the lads are coming through the king and then there’s two Lambs playing in the

Road so me and um one of the lads had to run up the road and and pick him up and get him out of the way [ __ ] Shake get off the [ __ ] road you before bikes come cuz well that was the it was a so car lad where the hair

Came up through the outfit yeah yeah Crow Brothers yeah yeah yeah yeah he lost his legs and all right you don’t realize yeah but it’s all good fun TT eh I love it man love it there we go right that’s it tea time yeah tea time tea tea time yes so right

Smash buttons go and check them out L yeah I won’t see if anyone’s got any better TT stories let us know but this glad full of them

  1. Great upload,I've been to a few TT's & go to the Classic TT every year. When I first went it surpried me where some spectators stood,I don't think they're aware that if things go wrong there's going to be pieces of motorcycle flying toward them at high speed 😵.

  2. Really enjoyed that episode. Even including Guy Martin, the humbleness of the TT riders is something astonishing – and something I have nothing but admiration for… More tea needed though…

  3. Bloody brilliant on that one Rick But the price of the pieces on them R6’s Let alone the big bikes just like telephone numbers, makes my prod days of LC racing look like peanuts, compared to today’s prices enjoy your time in Spain and have fun

  4. Loved this, first time on the channel, TT born and bred, we live for those two weeks of the year….definitely coming back to have a look at the content….don’t forget, MD chucking a leg over a TT marshals bike at the MGP, and doing a 129 …. lap, on a stock Honda 1000 , road tyres , standard fairing, mirrors and all….cheers…👍👌🇮🇲

  5. Great watch, those R6's are miles different to the 2007 ex Virgin cup bike I raced in 2011. Loving the TT stories, my hat goes off to anyone that rides there. 👍🏻

  6. I fuckin loved that episode ❤like for real i sat back grabbed some Doritos and watched it like i was studying for uni. Love the TT content also as an R6 owner i love everything around that bike. Please follow TT or bike builds for the roads!!
    Cheers from Greece ❤

  7. Damn, its so good to hear you pronounce Akrapovic correctly.
Brilliant video as always guys, esp as I'm a Biker, Manx Mechanic and NL instructor.

  8. Does the Thru rod Ohlins cause less cavitation compaired with the TTX and whats the difference in service intervals, if any?
Do you ride with standard thickness or Fat grips on the Bars.

  9. It’s bonkers that a champion in any serious sport cannot easily obtain sufficient sponsorship to go racing tells me something is broken about the commercial side. Unfortunately, sports that cost more than jumpers as goal posts require paying watchers. And the way those eyeballs are monetised is through advertising. There is no other way to do it these days. In the past, some sports had enough people attend physically and buy tickets, like football, when the game was pre-commercial.
Any sport that is long planned like motorcycle racing it ought to be possible to commercialise it in this way, but it would take commitment from a group of passionate people who could organise, at minimum, capturing racing on video.
TT+ I think has begun to crack this nut, because it’s an unbelievably good product for what, £25 or something. People from all round the world pay a small amount each and I imagine this throws off millions a year. Now advertisers want to shove their products under our noses, and we tolerate it, to keep the show going.
There’s never going to be enough commitment from broadcast TV & there’s no point in trying that. The audience is way too small now, with distractions aplenty. Online is the present.
Good luck, you awesome people. Respect all day.

  10. Possibly the best content I've ever seen in any YouTube video. Dan and every other rider that takes part at the Isle of Man, absolute heroes, every single one of them 😍
