The picture is pre-removal. Like the title says: am I supposed to need a shim/washer/spacer for this?

I spent the better part of an hour trying to find something that would work (looking up something like, “threaded headset spacer”), but it seems like I’m getting nowhere. My other bike appears to have something like it, but I’m not going to cannibalize it.

I guess reflectors were also shims back in the day? 🤷🏽‍♂️ I should note the headset is mid 80s Shimano 600, which apparently has a special fancy star locknut.

  1. Threaded headset always include a keyed spacer. Pretty standard. I’m surprised the person installing the reflector removed the spacer.

I don’t know, but is this a Bridgestone? I’m seeming to start an old Bridgestone bicycle collection..

One spacer is fine. Two (including the reflector bracket) is redneck. There have been handlebar cut saw guides for decades. Trim it and take pride my friend. Less than $30
