Sidewall tear at BWR today, ruined my race after being on pace for a top 5. Just shit luck making a pass on the trails and coming back across right over a sharp rock. Put my emergency tube in, pinch flat two miles later. Patches wouldn’t hold either, had to limp it back

I have a pair myself and seem ok so far but I don’t ride where my MTB goes.
I have Schwalbe marathon mondial on my other flatbar and they are definitely bulletproof.
This is a Pirelli design flaw. Cinturatos unzip their sidewalls exactly like this if they puncture and end your day unless you can boot and tube it.
I have a wall full of Pirelli’s all failed this exact way.
Fast tires but not for rough roads.
please understand that whatever caused THAT would likely cause the same issue in most other tires as well. there is a difference between puncture resistance and a straight up slashed tire.
Schwalbe off-road touring. 3k miles and no flats.
I got through Big Sugar last year with no problems on Gravel M’s. The next day I noticed a small hole in the rear that had sealed itself. The next weekend I hit a rock in a race in Oklahoma and somehow it knocked a hole in the bead. Had to tube it. They aren’t bulletproof, but I like them overall.
