Hey guys welcome back to the channel man  today we’re going to be taking out a video   titled biggest culture shock American in England  so first of all um I you know I I’ve said that U

I live in Finland which a lot of you guys may or  may not know by now right however I don’t think   I’ve said it quite enough that my cousins uncle  aunt like live in the UK like they’re British my

Cousins are British right and um I have a quite  quite a few family you know relatives in the UK   so I should know stuff about the UK right but I  don’t I don’t like I’ve been told by my cousins

That I would fit quite well there you know and I  I was you know happy about that right that’s way   before I moved to Finland obviously I didn’t  even knew Finland existed at that time cuz   the only place in Europe that I knew existed was  places like Germany Spain Italy the famous ones

And obviously the UK because family whatever  right but um we’re going to be checking out   this video right now because I want to know what  are the culture shocks you know what an American   would experience in um England you know should  be you know nothing major I don’t think really

I don’t know I don’t know anyways um let’s get  right into this video thank you for watching   first of all and if you have any recommendations  feel free to leave those in the comment section   down below and uh yeah let’s get right into  this video man the seven biggest culture I’ve

Had to endure being an American living here in  England now oh you live in all tight tight tight crazy Scotland so number one the weather not just the  weather in general but the weather and patterns   changes so quickly here have been days where it’s  been really cold and rainy and then around like

Midm morning lunchtime it’s sunny and warm there’s  not a cloud in the sky and then by like 3 or 4:00   in the afternoon it’s really dark really cold  and the wind has picked up freezing by the next

Morning just changes really really quickly here  but the good thing about it is it’s not as Extreme   as it is in the northeast of America in northeast  of America you get frigid temperatures plus plus

Lots of snow when it’s lots of rain freezing rain  um and you get extreme heat and humidity but the   UK weather here has been a huge culture shock for  me the second thing is the accents so in America

Because there’s it’s so big and there’s it’s such  a Melting Pot of people I’m used to different   accents so but when I came to Britain I thought  there would be a few different accents but there’s   wa on why she a had nothing for Florida different  accents that’s crazy Britain I thought there would

Be a few different accents but there’s a lot of  different accents even between like counties but   I wasn’t expecting that it be so that that divers  but in my humble opinion I think the United States

Is the one place that has like a [ __ ] ton of  variations in the way how people speak like you   Americans just typically just speak like a flow  like the way how things flow is just American but

Like most Americans that you will meet like you  most most Americans I could I could get videos   right now of Americans talking and I can guarantee  you cannot understand like I’ve made videos of my

Own self and I’m listening back and I’m like what  the hell did I say right and it took me a while   to even figured out what I say right so sometimes  [ __ ] you know in America gets really complicated

Too so I do believe that it’s a toss-up you know  I do know the UK has so much variety you know they   have so many different ways of speaking but I  don’t really think it it is so diverse compared

To United States when it comes to Accents I  really don’t think so but y’all let me know   what y’all think y’all probably experience both  of them so let me know what y’all think in the   comment section please here number three the cost  of living is it bad everything’s really expensive

In America oh here in England the cost of living  is a lot less expensive than I thought even going   to you know big touristy spots like castles when  we went to Canterbury at Christmas time and the   markets that special you special Christmas markets  and specialty stores and stuff I thought it was

Going to be really expensive but it really isn’t  and it’s a cultural norm actually to not spend a   lot of money on things and to be very stringy  about money those those types of things were   were huge culture shots number four it’s a really  friendly country now England has a reputation you

Know being a little bit stiff um a little bit  pretentious and just shut up and get on with   it kind of attitude which is for the most part  people are really willing to help and in a very

Genuine and non-fake way but I didn’t expect it  from strangers and I didn’t expect you know that   kind of environment to just be conducive to being  helpful and friendly number five that’s good it’s   something that I love but the walking culture  here is like Supreme cuz obviously a lot of

The towns are been around for hundreds of years  and it was well before you could get wagons and   stuff into it the culture in America is centered  around driving D centered around having to have   a car to get anywhere walk to some place is very  rare unless you’re in the cities that suburbanite

Point of view that I grew up with and lived with  for so long in America really got challenged I   actually really like it there something I love  about being here in the UK cuz I’m a walk I love

I I’ve been in Finland and um well the honest  truth is is being here in Finland I haven’t been   the most you know on the feet type guy I haven’t  because um I live in you know North Finland where

The snow is really there and it’s really cold I  live in that area lap land right um so I haven’t   really been walking you know unfortunately um  what when it’s summer though I do bike right

I don’t like to walk cuz it’s too slow of a pace  for me but the truth is before I had my driver’s   license I did walk a lot more because everything  that I needed I had to walk or bike right and um

I I do bike in summer that’s for sure like when I  go out to you know workout my workout is playing   basketball and riding my bike um so when I do do  that I do ride and I do you know move a lot but

I don’t actually walk a lot since living in um you  know La plan well that’s the only place I’ve lived   in Finland but um the thing is I do believe if I  lived in South Finland I would have walked a lot

Because the truth is it’s not conducive it’s not  feasible for you to drive in South Finland as I   visited those cities before I’ve seen it it’s  not feasible at all right um too much walking   uh it’s like New York I would never recommend  somebody to drive in New York because there’s

So much people walk in it’s like one mistake  and that’s it your ass is screwed right so I   wouldn’t have recommended so I do believe if  I was in South Finland I would walk more but   I haven’t actually been walking and it’s actually  a huge surprise right now that I’m realizing this

Cuz I didn’t realize so yeah I think I need to  put some legs in you know some walkinging for me   it definitely suits number six there’s a lot more  nature here than I thought there would be because

It’s an island very little space there’s a lot of  population here and so I just um I guess I made   the American assumption that they would just build  stuff on that land you know Commerce or something   like that or housing instead they’ve actually  preserve a lot of greenery there’s public parks

Everywhere there’s trees and flowers everywhere  in the springtime it’s like a garden everywhere   you go just really enjoy seeing that and uh  that being a priority in such a uh Urban and   developed country that has been around for so  long especially compared to America where they

Would basically pave everything and make it a  parking lot if they could make money off of it   and lastly biggest culture shock for me is the  sense of community that people actually want to   help that people actually want to preserve nature  that people actually preserve the heritages the

The British history people actually take a lot of  Pride yeah Europeans take a lot of pride in theya   for real cuz I was here in um Finland about two  three days ago and I was driving and when I was

Driving um I saw some folks and I was like what  the hell they doing with all these signs get out   my city right cuz you know where I live it’s  really a calm place you know nothing happens

Here right nothing happens right so I get in  that Vibe it’s like n no no Outsiders get out   right and um I went by and then when I went by  I asked someone and I was like what is this what

What are they doing right cuz I I don’t know  it was in finish right and I’m not that fluent   in Finish somebody told told me and they were  like it’s because of the mining that is going

On and the mining uh company are going to move  to another location further in Finland up north   further up north and they’re trying to protest  to prevent this from happening cuz they’re going   to destroy so much [ __ ] right like you know you  know the same foresty stuff right and I was like

Oh okay so that’s actually not a bad cause then  I understand you know but um yeah so I respect   it with uh Europeans in general protesting and  um you know letting their voices be heard you   know when they’re disgusted or disgruntled with a  particular topic or manner you know having a good

Community we because it the sense of keeping the  community see keeping the community going so that   everybody can enjoy it that sense of community was  a huge C shop for me but it is something that is

My favorite thing about living here in the UK  so there you have it the seven biggest culture   shots I appreciate it mom um but y’all can go  check out the original video and go you know   subscribe to her Channel she got 351 subscribers  go ahead and go subscribe to her Channel help her

Get that number up and um you know y’all can  actually advise her on what content to make   about the UK probably a walk around video cuz  I want to see a walk around video of the United

Kingdom I’ve never been there before um I hope to  visit soon my aunt uncles they be saying pull up   I’m saying I’m broke [ __ ] like that anyways um  so yeah thank you guys for watching this video I

Really appreciate it and um yeah like I said go  show some love to her get her subscribers up you   know and um show some love to her over there as  well was a solid video my humble opinion great um

You know culture shocks that she experienced  um pretty pretty pretty good from the side   of England UK um but anyways guys thank you  for watching this video I’m out of here peace

  1. For me #1 one for shure would be driving on the other side of the road. I wouldn't even dare to drive there without some extra training first.
Weather is such a dumb one. I mean thats a culture shock you can also have as an american in america if you just go into another region.

  2. Oh the accents in the uk are crazy different, even within the same city you’ll find completely different accents, not to mention the differences between for example a south London and a scouse accent, and that’s just England not to mention wales Scotland and Ireland 😂

  3. Overhere in the Netherlands people living 3 miles from each other use different words, and within 25 miles they even speak a dialect I can not understand. And driving to a other countrys with a other language it takes me ten minutes.

  4. She “endured” the weather????!!!! 😳🤔🤔what?? The hot weather temperature reached 30c and she was worried she would dehydrate?? Did she experience wild sandstorms whipped up by the strong winds from the Sahara Desert? Terrifying tornadoes – seeing the roof of a house flying up in the sky? Was she struck by lightning in a fierce thunderstorm? Or due to the Arctic conditions had to wear thermal clothing and snow ski to her place of work? A diving suit because of the Flooding? – yes, well a bit of that I suppose 🥺

No…. She just witnessed the usual and typical British “weather conditions” that most of us just get on with 🙄. If I had the opportunity to travel to Death Valley, I might have to “endure” the heat there though, but then again, it’s called Death Valley for that reason I believe!!

Word of advice to the lady, always carry a rain mac, wellies and a brolly, together with a tee shirt, flip flops and sun cream in your shopping bag – be ready for any sort of weather then!

  5. American accents are also very difficult to follow, given the strange words used there with odd pronunciation and very poor enunciation;(hairy padder had a glarse of wadder from hermeeony and Ron ),if it were not for the subtitles, most american media would be unwatchable.

  6. The U.K’s weather is hard to predict because we sit under 5 different weather systems. And on our accents there are roughly 40 in a country smaller than Texas

  7. It's funny hearing an American pronounce Britain with a glottal stop on the t so the t is not pronounced. I think Brits can understand American accents better than Americans can understand British accents. I think it's to do with exposure because Brits hear American accents on TV and in films more than Americans hear a wide range of British accents in those media. Also perhaps the variations in accent are greater in Britain, or I should say the UK, not to forget the Northern Irish accent.

  8. The US (and Canada) lack hugely in dialectal diversity and the accents that come with it, especially in the west of the country where the presence of the white colonisers is relatively recent compared to the east, or even more to the UK.

  9. I used to live half way between Liverpool Manchester citys. 35 miles in a direct line with at least 30 accents in that radius wit Chester city in the South and Preston in the North East. Takes a while to tune into some of the subtler ones but completely wide variety of accents.

  10. I think England has more accents than America, The accents are different in London , North East,North West, Yorkshire , East Midlands, West Midlands,East of England and South East, The accents I carnt understand is people from North East of England , West East of England and people from the Midlands.

  11. Britain has way way way more accents than the Americans . For a start most or all YOUR accents of the English variety stem from us , we didnt export ALL of our peoples . Our accents come from foreign invaders like the vikings in the north , the french in the south , constantly being forced to change and merge , for intsnce most Scottish ' slang ' what i call my language that i use exclusively round other Scots derives from north Europe . Your redneck brethren in the south are predominately of Scottish origin ( not proud ) Hillbilly originates from the Scottish escaping the british army due to a rule , put the Scot up first kinda thing , and in support of king billy rebelled and joined the south or something to that effect

  12. Is it nice living in Finland ? I’m a north wales Welsh person and I love living here never lived anywhere else .I admire people who can live in other countries as I could not , I would miss my language to much . . When I go across the border (England ) 😊 I like it when I come home and see the road signs in Welsh and English . Home then 😊

  13. In England, proceeds to use the UK flag. UK equals four different countries. So experiencing only one and using a flag that represents multiple is not a good look. That’s like using a EU flag of you only went to Germany. It doesn’t make sense.

  14. No, we really do have a crazy number of different accents here in the UK. You have to remember that we are exposed to a LOT of US American TV, film, music, etc. So we hear the different accents in the states. Ours are far more diverse. It's not just different accents in different counties. Accents can change a matter of streets away! The reason for this is that the UK is very, very old. People didn't travel much in the olden days, so accents developed almost in isolation and departed more and more from what might be called a 'normal' accent, although there really isn't such a thing in the UK. With the advent of the radio and, particularly, TV, everyone was exposed to what is still called the 'BBC' accent, or Received Pronunciation. This became diluted over time to result in what we call a 'normal' British accent. However, I for example, have a slight Bristol accent (it's a thing, mine's actually a Bedminster (Bemmie) accent which is a small part of the city of Bristol). Other Bristolians think my accent is 'normal', whereas people from elsewhere can hear the Bristolian accent when I speak! Many of our dialects have words which are peculiar to that particular dialect. Like, for example, as a Bristolian, I might say to you 'Owroight me babber?' (it's a greeting) or say that I come from 'the general areal o' Brizzle'. The 'l' at the end of 'areal' is not a typo.

So please dont' say we're not as diverse as US Americans when it comes to accents. We are well-known throughout the world for having extremely diverse speech (accents and dialects), especially for such a small country. You have to travel round the UK and then you'll soon realise how wrong you are! it's actually a little bit insulting for someone from another country to categorically state that our accents are not diverse when they clearly haven't travelled throughout the UK or bothered to research it. It's like telling all Native Americans that they all sound the same. We are generally very proud of our heritage, whatever part of the UK we come from, and our accents are part of that heritage.

  15. The US is a country where INDIVIDUALS went to get a better life for THEMSELVES.
They left their European COMMUNITY for that.
So. No surprise the US is what it is.
