    Bike making an awful noise while pedalling… any idea what could be causing it?

      I must admit I’ve been riding it in the rain so it could just be normal wear and tear, but maybe one of you could point me to what could be causing this sound? I do plan on taking the bike to the store tomorrow as it’s closed today…

      It may be that the rear wheel does not sit straight in the droupouts.
      It could be a number of things, such as a dry chain, a misaligned brake or the gears are set incorrectly.

      Take the chain off and try pedaling to see if it’s the bottom bracket. Some of the squeaking could be the chain in need of some lube.

      Nice avant garde instrument you got there. I’ve never heard a chain that loud before but I guess anything is possible and you could have a few links frozen. Easy test: lube the chain, let it sink in for a little while, and if the sound decreases or changes then it’s the chain.

      Just because it’s so loud my brain went to completely failed bottom bracket or hub bearings. I can see the chain vibrating in response to some kind of shudder. Could still be the chain but like someone else said, you can test for bottom bracket bearings by removing the chain and seeing if the noise continues when you rotate the crank. Same for the rear wheel. If you remove the wheel and the axle is really gritty or the cassette doesn’t want to spin then your problem is on the back side of the bike.
