Greetings Warlords welcome to Saga Thor’s day show all about the Skirmish Miniatures game from Studio Tomahawk I’m joined by Robbie for a faction review how’s it going Robbie good man yourself oh I am doing well here and thanks for agreeing to this and coming on and we’re going to talk about assassinates from
Agee of invasion so this one was a little trickier to find somebody willing to to uh talk about them so there’s not too many players that I know of and the ones that I was in contact with weren’t you didn’t feel like they had cracked cracked the board or something it didn’t
Feel like they would be a an expert but Robbie you’re you’re an expert right what you say yeah I’ll claim to be for this awesome so yeah assassinates came out it’s probably one actually one of the newer factions one of the new ones with age of invasions and people are excited
About them when they came out and then kind of I don’t know the excitement dissipated I don’t know is it easy to find models appropriate models for these I’m I’m mainly using um Aventine I think just just the quality of the models um I know some people are
Using reconquer designs as well and which they those models look amazing but I’m a fan of metals to be honest um alen time their range is absolutely fantastic they do everything that you need um all all the unit types all the models that you need yeah bnie is definitely a fan
And I was just looking at elephants the other day and was over on their website checking them out they got good ones and then I saw everything else so might be a time to return to the medals for my next project yeah uh cuz they’re they’re
Lovely but all right so let’s jump into the assassinates earthw enemy of the Romans during the the period where they’re most active and let’s jump into the equipment options here they’ve got a lot of fun stuff Limited in some ways but so Warlords and hearth guards are
Mounted on es and equipped with cact armor so can you just recap the catract armor so the CCT armor is essentially the you don’t lose any any armor um for against shooting so you still armor five against shooting but that’s kind of that’s counterbalanced by um being only
Being able to move short you can still charge long but your general movement is only going to be short is it short or medium for sorry yeah Med Med okay all right just want to make sure I was remembering that right yeah I said they get
One how does it work they charge long but movements are medium or it’s one per Char yeah the the movements are medium but if you’re going to charge anyone you can still charge long um but you like I said it’s it’s CED by that benefit of having the the plus one armor under
Shooting which is quite beneficial for these for these guys to be fair got it yeah so that’s nice for Hearth cards and Warlords to keep that armor up we always know they’re they’re targets of shooting now other factions can you kind of optionally take the cact
Armor and people are kind of divide at you I think it’s good I don’t think it’s bad sometimes that Double L uh threat range for the calav is pretty pretty juicy so um do do you wish you could get regular mounted guys um I think these guys have enough
On the boards to be able to counter that to be honest um I do know a couple of people AR again kind of against taking the the Earth guard because of that reason but I think the board supports it okay cool well if we go down to Warriors
We’ll see they’re mounted on the regular horses right there so you still got the speed and then they can be equipped with composite bows so they either mounted or mounted with composite bows no no foot sloggers no interesting now levies can be equipped with bows now interesting can be do that mean
They just get the foot slagger Levy too the no special get yeah get a choice of both which is quite good depend depend yeah depending on sort of if you come up against any scenarios where you might need to capture objectives or anything then then they’re pretty uh pretty
Steady steady steady Tak for that to be honest excellent yeah so when I was first looking at it didn’t look like anything could close ranks but but we got those foot Slugger no special equipment levies so I’m definitely a fan of those guys um and then on the bottom
Here assassinate warband can recruit elephants I love to see it so this is the only faction in age of invasions bringing an elephant and do you like to take the elephant Robbie yes sometimes too all right yeah and I’m pretty sure that um you can actually recruit with these guys up to
Half the points that you have in elephants so you could probably take three if you really want to three would that be just Madness Packer Madness absolute absolute Madness I I would have recommend it personally but it could be fun it’d be worth trying okay yeah we’ll take a look and see how
The board supports the elephants so I think most Saga boards that can take an elephant usually have a few tricks they can pull specifically with the elephant so we’ll see how the sassin can do it um so you got a ton of options here uh between the Warriors and Levy especially
Elephants or not so um we were kind of chatting before you know it’s one of those War bands where there probably isn’t one right way to do things but what is what do you think like a good starting point would be for somebody jumping in currently I’ve been getting quite a
Lot of luck with just taking one elephant just just for that threat of um and that that insecurity that you don’t want to attack it you don’t want to send your he guard in there you don’t want to send any mounted anything mounted near it um two and a half points of warriors
Uh a point of Levy B and 1.5 uh points of Earth guard just to have a bit of a sledgehammer nice so those Warriors um with bows or n a mix composite BS when we get into the board it just it supports them really really well probably got some one of the best
Shooting abilities that you could probably do I reckon oh cool glad to hear it yeah gonna throw it out there it’s probably one of the best like an individ best individual shooting ability you could probably do well I can’t wait to jump in and check that out so yeah
That’s cool to hear about composite bows they’re kind of a a trickier equipment choice and kind of like the elephants you usually need something on the battle board to kind of uh really Jazz him up a little bit so I guess you just I know you set the standard pretty high there
You we’re gonna see the best shooting ability ever in the game of s yeah I’ll I’ll stun by it until I’m told any different but individual shooting I know there’s a lot of guys out there that can perform like multiple shots which is just like insane but as as an individual shooting
Ability I think there’s a couple of things on here that are pretty top to be honest all right well sounds good let’s jump over to the Battle Board and I’ll just mention up top that the elephants are activated like Warriors so that can change between boards carthaginians
Indians can you know kind of activate them like Hearth guards but just Warriors for these guys so uh yeah nothing nothing wrong with that but I just wanted to mention it uh and at least about half of the boards they forget to put them on there period so
It’s good to see they they put the activation right on there um okay well jumping right up armen’s curse shooting ability using an uncommon or a rare the enemy suffers a minus one penalty to its defense dice if you use a rare they also Gain No benefit from cover oh nice yeah
That is Juicy so uncommon with a little negative one um how does this work out for you quite well I mean they having to save on a five which is always a bonus is it when you when you have to like increase the unit how how the unit
Defends so yeah and especially I’m sure there’s times to use use the rare there somebody in heavy cover going from plus one armor blocking on threes to no armor bonus and blocking on fives that’s that’s the difference there it’s pretty good so are you how big are the composite Warrior units that they’re
Running little Annoying ones or like a big like I try R them in a in a 10 10 or 12 like a point or a point and a half so real big so you’re rolling five or six dice usually so yeah yeah yeah this one more dice you’re rolling the more juicy
That negative one is going to be do you find the uncommons on this board are particularly hot it’s a common I’d say that this is probably one of the only places where i’ I’d be wanting to put that okay put put the rare um there’s a lot of things that you
Can do with the uncommons they’re kind of needed in various different other places so if you get a rare definitely worth putting it on here okay I like the sound of that all right let’s pop down to the next one here flames of atar uh this one’s rare so we’ll see you
Just said the rare goes up top but we’ll see if this one works out trigger after enem unit activates before it’s resolved activate the unit should shoot if the target of the shooting attack suffers at least one casualty its move and charge distance is reduced to S until the end
Of the turn so you can potentially cancel whatever’s coming in at you um potentially I think for for a rare it’s it’s quite expensive uh I think there’s other things on the board that could you could follow it like uh curse maybe MH um overall I’d rather play the rare
Somewhere else if I got one personally yeah it’s not too bad um the rare cost yeah it seems a lot but um you’re getting a shot in the opponent’s turn so you know you’re not you could just use it for that not gain the fatigue because
You um looks like you don’t even have to shoot at the unit that activated you could shoot something else uh yeah yeah you could shoot anything the the issue is is that whether what what whatever you’re shooting at obviously has to be in range so a lot a lot of people keep
Away from your Levy because obviously if you got Levy Bowman they’re they’re a hindrance and you don’t want to get shot at so they’re probably going to be out of range and the next guys that you’re going to be shooting from is your your compete ball Warriors so and they’ve
Only got a range of of medium for their shot oh yeah yeah that’s a yeah so generally if someone’s going to be moving and you going to be shooting someone a lot of the time they’re going to be out of range mhm that makes sense so all cuz if they move
Into your range then obviously they’ve completed the movement at that point so so this is before it’s resolved so you could actually kind of do this is like a Hail Mary or something against the enemy warlord or if you’re fighting another elephant if they’re exhausted this would
Give you a chance to try to pop a pop a couple shots into it before it rests yeah it activates the rest you pop this maybe you’ll get the hit through before they get the chance to Slough the fatigue off so that might be another
Trixy way to to pop it but yeah it it is a a rare regardless yeah I I just think for a rare the way that it works is quite circumstantial and maybe a bit too circumstantial to be putting a a dice on it and waiting for the chance to use it
If you know what I mean sure yeah yeah yeah absolutely all right must pop down to evasive so another shooting ability but this one on the defensive side just takes a common die increase your armor by one nothing wrong or shabby about that no pretty good and
This is one of the reasons why I don’t mind taking the the he guard with the catract as well because they’ve got arm five you throw this in there for for a Comon armor six they’re not really getting through your warlord as well armor six yeah going from four to five
Is like uh okay but five to six oh yeah yeah that’s awesome yeah definitely um it helps with your elephants obviously elephants have reduced Aran shooting I think it’s four so you know you yeah putting there them up to five um yeah it basically it helps keep your opponent honest it’s like yeah
You want to shoot me you think that you’re going to get a bonus then you just negate that straight away MH Absol absolutely yeah not too shabby all right let’s go down to a shadow in the East another shooting ability what is going on with the shooting here it’s a common and
Uncommon gain three attack Dice and add a plus one bonus to your attack dice so um that is pretty pretty darn good so we’ve seen yeah that two dice abilities give you a plus one so you get three attack on top of it yep so this along with aran’s curse the
First one that we went over oh yeah play these both play play these both together and if your opponent you know they they think they’re going to get the levy safe in the ruins in the middle of the board help help Force you wide or do whatever
Else you send in your your point and a half of Warriors you’re GNA get getting what nine shots yeah cheaper Theus one they’ve got no yep no benefit from cover you get a plus one so you’re hitting them on a two and they’re having to save on a
Five nice that’s going to do some damage all right that that’s pretty good is this so that I think this is as a singular shooting ability I think this is one of the top ones that’s out there if you can get this off okay yeah I
Would yeah this this is pretty darn good as far as shooting abilities go um you’re right there are different shooting abilities but they’re kind of combo plays between different abilities or or multi activations for just one powerful shot I think this is probably As Good As It Gets um apart from maybe
Those cheeky abilities that give you Auto hits on a couple different boards you in certain situations you’d prefer the auto hit but if you’re just going for Mass Devastation I think this is pretty darn good and I like that play of they think their levies are safe uh but
You’re smacking them on twos and they’re saving on fives and I just really hate levies and anything that will devastate them brings me joy so I think this is yeah yeah and it’s a quick way to get your opponent to lose a saga as well because you’re going to be going in
Point and a half a Warriors you got nine shots there going in uh throw maybe a couple in the combat bonus just to get those extra hits going yeah especially if it’s your big play and you popped uh that first one with the minus one so
Every extra one is a plus one minus one and know even just the you know the combat bonus try to juice that up yeah cuz you you’re getting nine shots you know that’s seven and a half hits you know they’re going to kill fiveish maybe
But if you get a little lucky you can do it and if you set up a combat bonus yeah you can probably take them out in one one go yeah they gon to be gone or they’re not going to ca her any bother anymore yeah it makes a big difference
To the opponent When the Levy you’re down to like you know six seven you know it’s three shots four shots he becomes a little trickier to put that dice over there to activate them uh CU you know you’re not getting the bang for the buck that they they would if they were unhe
Hurt so awesome I like that like that idea there mean you you could put the the rocky ground down yourself you know in a perfect spot for them to lure them in just a just to punish him full sense of security definitely yeah okay all right let’s pop down to
Second Wind I like the name of this ability I don’t know why but common uncommon orders orders reaction remove one fatigue from a friendly elephant or unit without range weapons so that’s Elephants or well not your sh got your yeah you’ve got your he guard in there
Your Warlords in there uh your Levy without ranged weapons um and you’ve got your warriors if you want to take them without composite bows it benefits the vast majority of sort of what you’re going to be taking in a certain in some some circumstances um and it’s also ERS and
Orders reaction I think with the changes of rules you can probably play this and put another dice on it to play in your in your opponent’s turn as well yeah yes it’s a little Advanced but if you had it from a previous turn you could pop it and then put the dice down
And then Play It Again on your opponent’s turn I believe is how that works so correct if if you do have a queued up you could get the benefit in your turn and the opponent’s turn in that specific situation so I’d encourage anybody to kind of look at the the rules
There before they try to do that just to make sure they understand what we’re talking about so yeah this is a this is awesome charge your your hear guard in beat something up and well I’m I’m back I’m I’m good as new with a comment so FR
And ready to go again and then you’ve got your then obviously you’ve got SE several other defensive abilities that you could probably be using as well so it kind of there’s no real sort of reason why why you can’t leave your your hear guard in a little bit of danger to fight the
Next time as well and again just get your opponent thinking maybe I’ll go into them and suddenly the gear at the board think that they’re going to have a a fatigue on the on the he guard knock their armor down to four you play this and NOP still five we’re back up baby
Don’t even try it um sloughing these off to Elephant is always good um whenever I play the elephant it ends the turn exhausted pretty much so being able to just automatically shunt it back down to two on the opponent’s turn if they want to come in now I’m not fatigued and you
Know you got to basically mount a one big combat or two kind of to to get through it so um yeah this this is awesome yeah we really helps keep keep your army fresh and yeah I like that it doesn’t work on the the range units if it did
Then it would be like too obvious of just shoot shoot shoot shoot so let’s encourage you to mix it up all right let’s pop down down to an exra B Advance you can use any die you want on this baby here choose one of your elephant or Hearth guard units roll
One die or two if you choose a hearth Guard unit for each non oh boy Robbie there’s too many words here I don’t know if I can handle it for each non-hero enemy unit with an S of the chosen unit the target unit takes a casualty for
Each result that is higher than their shooting armor or equal to or higher than their shooting armor so um you got a big Hearth guard unit your big six-pack you are with an S of three or four maybe enemy units if you’re getting really Saucy and spreading them out and
You’ll roll two dice for each so you can kill you can K two per unit then with the Hearth guard right is that am I reading that right yeah if you if you if you roll right you’re G to be doing all right and obviously if you go for the
Rare it’s equal to the armor value but it’s not this isn’t really something that I’d be wanting to play very often to be honest I think there’s there’s dice better served elsewhere to be honest with you R um yeah it’s very this is very circumstantial um when you might
Be playing this and the chances are that when you do need to play this you’ve probably picked something else to put your dice on anyway so you probably won’t have it queued up so yeah I definitely don’t like one die for the elephant should yeah it really yeah really yeah
It does seem like it should be the other way around because the elephant’s smaller and you know he’s not going to affect as much anyways but the Hearth guard so I know our local guy he mounts his Hearth guard on 40 mm rounds so kind of the
Biggest close well I guess you could get them bigger but um and I think he does take a six-pack and so um the the play is there to try to do some some hail Mar damage I guess it’s kind of cool I like those abilities that let you shoot and
This one is pretty good CU you’re not activating the unit you know so they’re not multi activating or anything like that it’s just um you know just a little something on top maybe if you have one of those turns where you’re you’re going to do something and that’s it but you
Have a dice or two left over um this would be a good one for if you you knock down the enemy Levy unit Robbie and you just got him down to with the big shot this might be a good one to finish you know sneak in that last hit against them
In the cover cuz uh you know the shooting arm maybe three so you got two cracks out of four maybe and it just bypasses the defense rle to get the last stupid Levy under um yeah like I said circumstantial if if if you can work it
Into your game if if your hear guard just apparently might might be passing these levy on the way up you might just want to throw it in there CU obviously the movement’s medium you might want to just like right I’m going I’m going to
Go up here there’s going to be a guy in the woods hanging around not doing very much I’ll have a crack at him and then I’ll carry on going yeah definitely wouldn’t necessarily base the whole battle plan around um doing massive damage but um extra little planks are
Nice for sure so let’s pop down to armored melee abilly another two diey also I believe the last one was common uncommon so this is a melee ability hero Hearth guards or elephant your units armor is increased to one in addition if it’s engaged with infantry gain two
Defense dice so that’s that’s good um like I said usually plus one to hit or plus one armor is a two die ability so having this little extra here I think makes it a little easier to pay that cost um yeah especially so yeah just sled off
The fatigue and you’re waiting with this one yeah it’s it’s pretty good to uh it’s like giving your giving your army some sustainability where where it needs it sort of like you your elephant needs to be St sustained in the game don’t it to keep you keep your opponent are
Thinking about where they’re going to be going and do they want to attack it your he guard if you running him in a six you’ve got a big Sledgehammer there do they want to go attack it when you’re when you’re up in the arm to a six and
They’re going to be getting two defense dice probably not unless you’ve got some serious abilities to bring that armor back down yeah so I think this is definitely definitely up there Slam in uh pop up to armor six and then you know it’s basically 100% chance they they roll at
Least one six in my experience uh no matter how many dice they’re rolling uh two three or four you know there’s guaranteed to be an En yeah so having the two extra defense dice um so having three chances against it uh is what I need in order to to make
It armor six just doesn’t cut it for me so uh yeah I think great ability all right defensive posture common here melee discard two attack dice to gain four defense dice um seems like a decent trade are you queueing this one up y is pretty good I usually use this
For maybe a bit more of the old um like defensive like if if I’ve charged up there with my he guard I’ve gone in I’ve gained some extra defense tce I’ve increased my armor I’ve done whatever else that I need to do there’s a couple of other abilities which gain attacks as
Well which we’ll go through um but yeah I use this for maybe sort of the counter punch so if if I can’t get my guys back um obviously moving them short and after after they been attacked sorry medium after they’ve been attacked you’re not really sort of going to be able to sort
Of push your opponent to be able to charge like along to get that fatigue so sometimes yeah I think it’s a good tradeoff if you’ve got the dice to do it and you can still mount a decent attack you four defense there is it’s going to save you is
It yeah so you could see you know charge in on your turn with armored do some damage hopefully take nothing in return their turn pop second wind on the big hearu guard unit and defensive posture you know you go from 12 attacks down to
10 or so you know it’s not a big deal to gain those presses for defense di so I like that it’s kind of two two obvious plays uh that really I think kind of push you towards that six-pack of Hearth guard um yeah and you probably going
You’re probably going to do more damage than they do in in that scenario because you’re going to have your four defense Dice and then if if they just move back short and they can’t get back any further then then on your next turn you know you’re good to go you might get
Fatigue you can you can just activate to rest and send them in with what the abilities that you might get and suddenly they’ve been a you know they’ve been in two fights and they’ll know it you know what I mean yeah this would also be uh super annoying on the uh no
Special equipment Levy if you just got them screened out there closing ranks when they come in and uh that’s not going to make anybody happy having to slog through that but yeah it’s just a good ability here because you’re going to have bow bow Levy bow Warriors
Uh you basically nothing can close ranks in the kind of list that you’re you’re using so having something that you can go to to make yourself a little more survivable I think is good yeah it’s it’s definitely I use for um to counter attacks rather than to use when I do
Attack very cool all right volley fire is the next one up orders choose a unit equipped with composite bows until the start of your next turn counts as being equipped with bows and gains the determination Special Rule so I will say as we’re recording this there’s no fact
Out yet for invasions and there’s some controversy here on whether the bows mean you’re on foot for if you look at the um description in the book The the language might imply that um you know usually mounted troops can’t get bows so they’re either on foot with bows or
They’re mounted with bows I guess is there how have you been playing it is there a consensus in your area yeah I play that they’re on foot because that’s kind of how it reads within the book it says that the you get the movement penalty um as as the downside which to
Me makes this negligible whether it’s worth playing or not um I’m guessing it it does kind of work if you’re going to play it and you can kind of predict your opponent’s movements it links quite well with uh flames of atar because suddenly those composite um all your units with
Composite BS you’ve got like a couple of um some Warriors dotted around with a compite B suddenly they can shoot l so they’ve got more range for that to happen um but again both pH you’re using a rare um and an uncommon for something which is quite negligible overall um and
When there’s better places to put this on common and stuff I think it’s not an autopick for me it’s very circumstantial I think I’ve probably used it once just trying out whether it works or not and never really had much luck for it to be honest yeah
It’s kind of a a weird one because when you have composite bows you shoot for free regardless so the determination kind of lets you shoot for free but you you paid a dice to do it so it’s like yeah um you know you’re just kind of
Staying further back out of range and I agree with you the um the way that it’s worded in the book it’s not explicit there’s enough there that somebody could argue the opposite but I I you know talks about them dismounting to to shoot you know at range or something like that
So I I think that’s how it should be played but hopefully there’ll be a fact out by the time this video comes out or in the future but yeah certainly needs some clarity to be able to S of get the best out of it I think um you know because you get yeah
It just they just have bows you so it’s the difference between the long range and the medium range and yeah I don’t know maybe if you got a whole bunch of rares and you just want to cycle through activation pool you could pop this one I don’t think it
Would hurt anything but yeah hard to think of a strategy around it yeah like I said the book actuallyit still state that it does work well with flames ofar and that’s what I’ve tried to use it with just to see if it actually does have any benefit but like I said
Circumstantial depends on all your opponent’s movements and everything so and and the distance of the are away from you and their plans so it’s a hard one to predict that you’re going to be that you’re going to need it and obviously because you’re playing it in your ord’s
Turn you’re kind of wanting it as a reaction maybe so if if if this was an order’s reaction it would probably benefit the board more uh to work and and maybe sort of Link the abilities of flames ofar with this and have it have that as the breare interesting
Yeah we’ll see hopefully it’s clarified a little bit more in the fact and maybe I’ll get some some more use out of it um as well all right let’s go down to the last ability here great Deeds M using that uncommon if your unit has no range
Weapons gains four attack dice very nice otherwise it gains two defense dice that’s okay one for for two there uh for an uncommon though so are you able to sneak this one in or yeah this this is one that I I quite like using especially
With the hear guard um my usual plan is to get in there with the uh with the warriors with composite B Whittle those guys down a bit where I can uh and send the send the um ccts in usually with this ability usually with this ability getting the four extra Dice and then
Getting armor to up the up the um up my armor to buy one and getting the two extra defense dice so you’re going in there where you ccts 16 dice to hit an extra two to defend they’re having to hit you on sixes you’re hitting them on
Whatever they’ve got it’s a bit of a sledgehammer really yeah four attacks for one die nothing to sneeze at if you don’t need the uncommon elsewhere so yeah interesting board overall so you do have um a lot of shooting but you got Defense Shooting defense some fatigue management
Uh one thing that’s kind of missing is like a multi activation um so using that that’s why these guys fall down yeah the composite bows are kind of screaming to have some sort of multi activation to combo with those you know is what we’ve seen on
Other boards and so um if you’re going to do Hit and Run Shooting you kind of got to do it manually and spend your dice to move spend your dice to move back um so I could see how this isn’t like uh I don’t know Mongols or you know
Where you have a bajillion little five pack of composite bow guys you know you really just can get away with a big one big unit or a big unit of bow to deliver those excellent um attacks Shadow having the um having the banner as well with the
Just so you can you can go up there with with a dice or with whatever you need to do get get your huge shooting going with aran’s curse and a shadow of the East bring them back and then on your next turn so they’re out of Dodge and then
Remove you fatigue the next turn and then you’re good to go again saves you die that’s the worst having to rest then move and then come back there’s like three Dice and you know generally in those you know you you got bad mojo too so you never kill
Anything and you’re like all right you I spent half my Dice and nothing happened and it’s almost their turn again what am I going to do um yeah so so I think the these guys you kind of if you get the right Dice and as like I said you’re
Going to be making things happen each turn but they’re not like a multi activation you’re not going to be getting in there getting multiple hits off you’re going to be going in there getting probably one one big hit backing off wait to see what your opponent does
And then sort of plan plan around that um maybe use your elephant to sort of guide them around the board see what see where they’re going and use your um use your levers to do the same really yeah I could see that you know depending the dice you get the position stuff you
Could see one one big shooting one big melee and um that that could be good enough I think you know a lot of boards can just muster one big melee and the way that you set it up too you’re not having your tikus blown in the Wind after you did
The melee you’re not uh especially vulnerable you know you’re not sacrificing a to do the big melee necessarily yeah you’ve got your second wind in there to keep you keep you fresh and you’ve got defensive posture in there to get your defense dice up um couple of other abilities you’ve got
Your evasive to get your armor up so you can leave your if you if you manage not to to get your opponent’s Levy in there or or if they’ve got quite a lot of shooting guys um you’re going to be putting your armor up to six on the SHO
In so there’s ways to keep yourself protected um but in terms of sort of getting in there and taking guys out for me these are guys that you you know you put all your dice on getting one big attack done uh and then keep it getting your guys safe after that absolutely so
Yeah everything looks good here but uh you know a theoretical Saga di which are always abundant uh or not so abundant on turn two or three if you’re like five or something cuz you’re you’re you know shadow in the East is two dice you know
So You’ be down to three after that so trying to pull off some of these combos here gets a definitely a little trickier um what do you with what factions do you have trouble with or you play Styles if you’ve been Carolinians um with their multi activations are just a nightmare
CU they can just okay so ping about the board and try trying to keep up with them is is the worst thing and Anglo Dans as well um not just because of the way they fight but just because they they just keep you fatigued so like when you do want to do
These hit these charges up with your uh your warriors to get your combo shot off and whatever else they’ll just fatigue you and you can’t remove that fatigue from them because it only works on units without range weapons sure yeah so so before you know it the kind of the
Treading on your toes so I need to I need to come up with a better build plan against Ang and see if I can sort of change my tactics to be honest with you and I’m guessing your Huns are obviously going to be strong against these as well
Sure so yeah you can you can only play evasive once to up your armor and then after that with their multiple shooting they’re just going to be taking chunks off you really so it sounds like the kind of Usual Suspects in some way you most War have difficulty against Welsh Pagan
Peoples uh you know Carolian those multi multi- shooter War bands so do you have fun playing the assassinates yeah I mean every time these guys are out like even if even if you lose you’re going to look good going down because the the models the models
Are really good so you can take a lot of you can take a lot of pride in you loss yeah definitely good thing but um getting these getting the abilities off and once once you do it and and the work well your opponent’s not going to enjoy
It and you’re going to be sitting back just going well you’ve lost half of your guys I’m just going to sit back and wait for you to come to me and then you just charge in with your with your he guard maybe even your warlord give him a give him a big knock
With them yeah there’s definitely a couple things here to uh I’m always a fan of the aggressive warlord and uh just throwing him in there so you’ve got a few tricks to do some heavy damage and keep them alive so I think that’s pretty cool uh do you have trouble with any
Scenarios in particular how does objective stuff work out for you I think that’s kind of where you need to sort of adjust your all band and be taking sort of your your um your levies without ranged weapons if you need to capture objectives and and they’re they’re pretty good actually for
Ke so if you if you’re doing um we have to take protect any special characters or anything and they’re good for sort of surrounding around there and uh but they’re all right I think they they’re better at sort of you Clash of Warlords figh on Camp Fire and and those sort of
Way just sort of fighting each other rather than going for for an objective but they can be strong play them in the right way like like you’ve just mentioned if you get the right dice anything can be good um they have the VAR the variation within the units to be compet
On several different levels M yeah that’s cool I think it looks like a fun board and yeah probably fun for your opponent as well I’d imagine um do you have a Merc unit that you you like to throw in when it’s MK time for the for the local I’ve tried I’ve um tried
Desserts a few times they’re pretty good um and also second win because it’s an orders you can use it on the Merks as well so you can keep them fresh if you need to oh yeah yeah absolutely so gets your gets another unit shooting yeah that’s pretty much the
Only thing here that would I don’t think there’s any other yeah just looking at the word yeah nothing too obvious there’s no there’s no others that really no other mer units that I really sort of gel with this uh w to be honest with you I just
Think that if you’re going to take any the desserts are a good fit other than that I don’t I don’t think you really need them to be fair now aren’t there there some camels in Invasions am I remembering that correct is there a camel Merc I’m look it up right now don’t
Think so usually I don’t research things but I’ll do it I’ll do it this one time I I got the book here looking it up all right I thought maybe there was a camel so I apologize if there’s no dirty camels running around um okay yeah maybe I’m remembering
Something different there yeah I’m just thinking of age of Alexander I guess nomatic Horsemen but no no camels okay so yeah probably deserters might be your best bet here just looking at everything um yeah so uh do you think assassinates would be a good board for
Beginners or should it be the a second war ban or even a third war ban before you’d recommend I’d go with second second or third I just think that there’s a couple of abilities where you need to sort of get used to how how certain things work um how to use cover
For your opponent’s purposes more than anything so when they’re in cover for Iran’s curse there’s a couple of odd abilities on there like the second wind like when you can play it when when you can’t you don’t want to be doing it incorrectly and missing the opportunity
To take a fatigue off um and obviously composite balls aren’t always the easiest thing to use I guess if you if you’re pretty up there with Saga you’re pretty much sort of up there with how composite BS work but I think they take a bit of getting used to
On sort of how to protect that unit and how to get the most out of those particular composite Bo units um the if you were a firsttime player then a couple of games and you’re probably going to get into them um but I think there’s easier wall bands to pick
Up as soon as you start of getting there got it so a bit of a learning curve but um yeah and like I said this is one where um a lot of people play them but don’t feel like they’ve necessarily cracked out the best way to use them or
You know even when they’re doing good they’ll they’ll still run into a couple roadblocks um so yeah that sounds cool to me sounds like a challenging band yeah yeah and I 100% agree with the other feedback that you’ve got sometimes I play these guys and they can just wipe people off the
Table and the next time I’m just like I just can’t understand what’s going wrong so so they they are quite hit and miss um but when they’re going good like it just it feels great the one of these wild bands where you’re getting these big attacks in and you just kind of like
You can see the damage happening in front of you and that’s always good to see like there’s a lot of wild bands that will take two or three models off at a time Here There and Everywhere and it’s cool you wear your opponent down but these guys you can go in there and
You can take a load off and you can just feel like and your opponent’s just sat there just going I wanted to use them and yeah you can ruin someone’s plans with these quite easy if you get the right dice definitely well I could see where this would be you know that first
Big shooting attack you’ve stacked everything in your favor and you’re counting on a bunch of casualties and it could be a Slaughter but or somehow you know they just still roll you know seven fives out of eight Dice and it sets the tone then for the rest
Of the game now you’re kind of behind you didn’t do the damage you needed to on turn two or something and things can kind of go off the I’ve seen that kind of you know with my last Romans it’s similar um but with s is at least you
Can kind of Stack that that big volley in your favor and are relying a little bit less on the cards to make it happen yeah I just think with with the way that been playing them with like two and a half points of Warriors playing
Them in in in tense with one with them with a banner um and also the the levy B um especially if you’re on turn two if your opponent’s coming out here you’ve suddenly got three points of attack there where you can get guys up and back
Um get them in range of your Lev is and move them back or just leave them there if you need to um get get your s where you’d be getting nine shots off getting your nine shots off with your with your combo Warriors and and you’re going to do some damage
Hopefully I mean you’re certainly stuck in the old in your favor using aran’s curse in the shadow of the East um there’s not much that’s going to get out of that you hope okay well all I S well thanks Ry for agreeing to do this like I said I

Flames of Atar seems really cool, actually, in fact cool enough to position your levy for. If you keep the shadow in the east on your board then you're pretty sure to get a casualty on anything but warlords or elephants. Even against a warlord you're doing on average just over 2 wounds, so if he already had a fatigue or is riding on a horse he is likely to be exhausted after the shooting.

These are definitely making their way up the old priority list. I had an idea of doing them as LotR Haradrim (against a friends gothic Rohirrim), but haven't quite found the right plastic kits for them yet (and no, I won't use GW for them, for a variety of reasons)
I use a Personal Champion with these sometimes, good board synergy and cataphract armour
As I am building this faction, I am really wondering about the "Volley Fire" clarification if we can get one. Seems completely useless if it makes the unit on foot but would be a decent ability if not. Also – while I get the idea of going after levy on a 2+ to hit sounds fun, I was actually thinking of going after high value targets, especially mounted. Imagine taking a 12 mounted warrior bow and running up to shoot a 6 pack of mounted HG using Shadow in the East and Ahrimans Curse. 9 shots at 3+ to hit with only 5+ saves and you kill 4 of them on average, basically 1 point shot off the board right away. Or go after a mounted leader if he makes the mistake of not having HG bodyguards nearby. Tack on 2 combat bonus dice if you have them, now you got 5 kills average and if you get a little lucky maybe you wipe the 6 pack out. Now, if it is determined Volley Fire is supposed to be still mounted and you can move L and shoot L….becomes a really cool combo more mounted warrior composite bow.
