Well whilst cleaning the bike, I have discovered what looks like a crack in the down tube of my bike. It’s second hand so I guess I’m on my own regarding the repair. It’s only been ridden twice by me on very easy terrain as I have a full suspension for the rough stuff. I’ll get it repaired I guess. Very disappointed.

what’s that silver bit of tape on the frame?

I’m considering using
https://carbonbikerepair.co.uk/wp/
Anyone had any experience with this company?
I am sorry this happened to you. Without knowing the full, real history of this frame, it’s hard to say whether it’s a defect due to Canyon, or it was damaged by the previous owner, and sold before the crack developed.
There was no sign of any crash damage to the bike when I inspected it. No scuffs anywhere, the levers all brand new, saddle unmarked,, bar ends perfect, derailleur unmarked, nothing.
When I have the crack dealt with I’ll make sure to get some pictures of what lies beneath the paint and update the thread.
As I mentioned to the mod, (thanks for the unlock), it’s a first world problem. I’ll get it repaired and I’m confident I will enjoy it without any further issues.
Ugh that’s frustrating. Canyons warranty does not extend to the second owner which is a bummer. I have had an sworks epic repaired and other than the cost, I am thrilled on the work they did. It looks like you are based in the UK?
Just my tuppence worth, a crack in that position is unlikely to have been caused by a crash, more likely being clamped badly on a car bike rack or work stand. Other comments have mentioned warranty period, but that only applies to original owner regardless of age or mileage. In the UK I strongly recommend target composites for very professional repair of carbon bikes.
Frustrating – It may be worth while to reach out to canyon to see if they will flex on their warranty. If the bike looks immaculate, and you believe this is not inflicted by a crash, they may stretch their rules a bit.
Would be a stretch but it never hurts to inquire.
also just fyi to others
– if you’re in the Netherlands i can recommend BCP Carbonreparatie / Special Paintwork
– if you’re in Brisbane i can recommend Carbon Steed
all from recommendations from friends, i have no vested interest in them.
Ok, I’ve spoken to Target Composites, sending some pictures over for an initial review. Hopefully a straight forward repair, honestly it doesn’t look too bad from what I can see, the finish is a mat grey, the decals (which look like paint) are not in the vicinity of the damage so I’m confident this will be an easy repair for someone with the necessary skills.
Just to keep the thread updated. Initial (all be it estimates) for repair are looking to be about £500 , I can live with that. I can strip the bike myself. I was expecting it to be around a thousand so I’m pretty happy all considered.
