Pictures in order of how the crank arm damage progressed yesterday on my ride. Currently touring cross country and I’ve unlocked a new fear for bike tourists … 🙃 the left crank arm felt odd the beginning of the day, and then I noticed it was bent and saw the chip and stripping of the carbon—not good. Found a hardware store and got duct tape and a metal rod to stabilize it. Made it 30 more miles. Then it was getting real bad so I tried to epoxy it and cast it again. Literally my first pedal stroke after the curing time was done snapped it almost fully. Soooo now just hanging out until a new crank arm can be shipped to me. Note: reconsider carbon crank arms for touring, or at least don’t get the Easton ones

  1. That’s not cranky, that’s janky!

Sorry that happened, but good try on fixing it. I’ve got an old bianchi with the non-drive crank arm bolt loosening up every 25 miles or so. I need to torque it properly, and maybe some loctite – but its prob losing the squareness of the hole and I’ll need to replace sooner than later.
