Front chainring seems like it might be a lil sharky. Should I replace it before I put on a new, waxed chain? I’ve got a new one on order (just as a backup, as it seems this kind of chainring is getting rarer and I found a good deal)
also, if you’ve seen my post on chain wear: I got a CC-4, followed the instructions making sure to pinch the chain on the right end and it seems to not be at 0.5 or even near it. I’d post a picture but I used both hands for measuring chain wear

The best way to tell is to put on the new chain. If it skips on the chainring, it’s time to replace.

If you put a new chain on and then pull up on the links at the front to reveal any of the gully between the teeth, yes, but chainrings don’t skip, like the rear cluster. They degrade the chain lifespan by stretching each link a small amount every pedal stroke

No need for change yet. Also next time try to make a picture without an angle.

It’s hard to tell from a photo or even looking at it – you really just need to see if a new chain fits it well. Chainrings last a lot longer than chains and cassettes.
The other thing wrong at the moment is that your chainring is 90° off – that peg sticking out should be behind the crank to stop the chain getting jammed down there.

That chainring is mounted incorrectly, the big silver pin should be behind the crank arm to stop the chain getting jammed in there if it drops off.
