Hey guys, I’m trying to remove the cranks from my GT Avalanche which seems to have SR Suntour cranks.
I removed the front bolt on both crank arms, and am using a crank removal tool (amazon.ca link). The issue is I cannot get either crank to budge no matter how much force I put on rotating the push screw of the removal tool.
I’m not sure anymore if this is just a matter of old and stuck cranks (and I should spray some WD40 overnight and just use a hammer to rotate the removal screw), or if I’m doing something wrong or using the wrong kind of crank removal tool.
Would really appreciate any help!

Since you’ve already got the fixing bolt out, if the threads are too stripped for the puller, pedal the bike carefully and slowly around a parking lot and the crank arms will fall out by themselves in a fee minutes
Soak it in WD40 for the night. If you haven’t stripped threads on cranks or the puller, make sure your puller threads are well lubricated before you start your next attempt.
If threads are stripped, than put the crank bolt back, but don’t tighten it all the way, leave a 1 mm gap and go riding that way, jump on cranks on both positions and it should undo itself in a few minutes.
If you havent pulled the threads out. Try penatrent. Then after thats soaked in put the puller back on (thread the extractor all the way back in before putting it on the crank again.) Lightly snug the part that screws into the crank down. Then spin the extractor tills its touching and apply moderate tension. While its under tension tap the backside of the crank with a rubber mallet and see if shock does it.
