    I’d try and balance it as much as possible. For me I find 10l on the fork, in practice, can be a cumbersome and large bag – I use 5l bags and to be honest find them too big. For me the ideal fork load would be 3-4l bags or containers, densely packed with heavier stuff like cooking. Tent on the bars and clothes out back.

  2. I think normally each mounting bolt is rated for 1.5kg, but the cages themselves are normally only rated for 3-4kg. That’s a more literal sense, but handling wise it’s probably best to give it a (careful) test ride once you have it loaded because geometry will make each bike be able to carry different amounts and stay stable.
