I was thinking about just taking a Dremel and adding the little dimples for grip and look I can’t think of any reason it would negatively impact the lever al all. Any of you done this b4?
I haven’t but I would think the risk would be possibly weakening the lever by removing too much material. The idea behind that is to increase the grip on the lever but honestly I would add those silicone boots before I would Dremel my lever.

Don’t.

I have XT levers on my full suspension bike and SLX levers on my hardtail. The XTs have the dimples whereas the SLXs don’t. I honestly don’t even notice the difference. And if I ride in gloves even less so.
It seems like a high risk, low reward exercise.

IMO, with gloves on, it’s unnoticeable by feel. Maybe enhance grip a little but not worth drilling it… just get XTs if you must.
I say try it. The biggest difference it will make will be in your own mind knowing you customized your own levers. That’s worth it for me
Put grip tape on the lever, you’ll get way more grip that way and far less likely to ruin your level.
You will most likely burn through gloves faster though.
i’ve just added skateboard grip tape to the ends of my brake levers.
If its just grip you’re after- Grip Tape
If its Grip and Insulation from the Cold- Lizard Skins Lever Boots.
But hey. Its 2024 and its your bike mon dude… godspeed
A metal nail/center punch might work better.
I would do like others suggested with the covers. I have them on my old bike and liked them.
I don’t think a university will do what you’re trying to accomplish.
Those are speed holes
You can stick grip tape on it, works better

Tis a useless marketing upgrade.
Drillium, a post technique from the 70/80s for heavy ass steel bikes.
Never done it to my MTB but dirt biking in the rain / snow I’ll put hockey tape on my levers for grip.
This mod doesn’t provide grip on the brake levers. It precisely adds 6.9 brake horsepower’s and 9 fig newtons of torques. But don’t do this
