I have a surly stainless steel chainring that is 42t, 110bcd, and I just recently learned in 3/32 and not 1/8in. I have had no problems but there’s a visible amount of space between the teeth and the chain while it sits on the chainring (see picture). I would just get a new chainring but I can’t find any that meet the specifications (110 bcd, 42t, 1/8). Safe to rock?

Yes it’s 💯 fine. I’ve done so for 1000s of miles and could never really tell any difference.
Seconded its fine. Ive used 3/32 cogs on the track for years, just a bit noisy
I’ve done it on my bike and it’s fine; gives me anxiety when I ride it in the rain but no other problems besides that
considering a 3/32″ cog for my other bike since it’ll be quieter than the 1/8″ cog I’ve got on there
I think I’ve read that the 1/8” and the 3/32” chain/ring swap only works in one direction, not the other. Looks like you have it the right way.
As long as you have 1/8 chain, your cog and chainring can be any combination of either.
Absolutely, it’s probably as strong as 1/8 aluminum
If your chain is tight then it’s fine. The chain is more likely to fall off if it’s loose when having the narrow chainring.
When I was a courier, some of my colleagues claimed that it increases chain ring and sprocket wear slightly, and they theorized it could be due to the chain sliding sideways across the teeth a bit. But that’s anecdotal at best. It definitely works just fine.
You can’t doit.. I personally like my chain ,crank and cog to be the same .. .. I’ve got 2 bikes that are 3/32 and everything else is 1/8 … buy hey If it’s working out , put it to work…
Any build or repair on any bike I put tools on always ends with the final test….
