A 1x should be less maintenance than a 2x. I’m planning to convert my shimano 2x at some point. Carbon fork is overkill IMO and I would avoid carbon anything for a commuter.
Not really enough info here to tell. Is bike 2 also mechanical brakes? What’s the geometry of each bike? What gear ranges do they have?
