Hey up everybody and welcome back to the ALU games podcast where today we’re going to be talking about the TOA province of course joined by the regular cast of Dan fan and Pedro John may be joining us later on so just expect a uh a face to pop up randomly later on but

Yeah TOA provance of course after vi de and the VTA community at valenciana the stages are it doesn’t include any Mountaintop finish which is a bit unusual for provance I swear it usually has one but we’ve got a prologue to start with which I will be classifying

As stage one I don’t care what people this whole prologue technically a prologue Patrick it’s not technically stage one Patrick but I I don’t believe in it I don’t stage one is a prologue stage two is a slightly lumpish Affair stage three will be the main deci it’s

Got like a oneish kilometer 4% drag to the line and it’s definitely the hardest day but it’s certainly not hilly like mountainous kind of hilly it’s not Climer worthy at all another the flat stage so it’s definitely a pedison sort of race uh arguably one of the main

Talking points is about the weather apparently it’s going to be pretty pretty na over there so it’s going to be you know we’ve been talking in our group chat about the kind of classic style Riders who might be quite good there could certainly be echelons maybe on

That stage two and that could be more decisive for GC than say a few seconds lost here or there in the prologue but speaking of all that I’ll just present uh the games website and we’ll take a look at some of varer prices so pedison

Has gone up from 20 to 28 the main question is uh does that does pedison being 28 credits put any of you off or are you still going to pick him I still think he’s too cheap what would you price him at to be like honestly like I’ve got a few I’ve

Got a few sixes in my team which I would happily put down to four if and just pick two random people if pedison was like I don’t know 30 32 34 because he’s by some way the strongest rider in the race because you look at zangler and Bennett and

Hoffet I’m not particularly confident any of them will um do well in the prologue maybe he’s zler perhaps but you’ve got most of the Tre team and fdj teams and potentially some of the Israel Premier Tech Team um doing well in the prologue so I mean mads could be I mean

He could be like vingard at the tour sort of like five six seven sorry uh five four six eight credits more than zonga but I he is what he is and it means I can get him so yeah I think that you know Pon realistically you know I did a video I

Uploaded a video earlier today and if he were to win all four stages which let’s face it it’s not out of the question and win GC and get all of those points he would be near a thousand points in a four stage race which is insanity

Pedro is pedon in your team right now yeah yeah he is for sure I believe it at 28 uh is the parkour is basically perfect for his for his um type of for the type of Rider he is so I believe 28 I mean it’s not cheap but it’s it’s an

Okay price I’m I’m willing to pay the 28 for for pson because I believe he’ll score above 900 maybe not 900 850 that’s almost sure um I mean if you want to win you gotta pick Mets I believe yeah because even if this bad weather does come of our echelons well pederson’s got

That covered as well he is just perfect in All Occasions for this Anan what price would pedison have to be for you to not pick him like 40 credits reckon that might be too much I think even that there you have to be crazy that to pick him because I

Rather leave out Zing or S Ben H but I think there’s there’s no scenario except that he’s that he crushes which I hope he doesn’t but there’s like you’ve said it’s windy a Shalom climbing it’s not any top Hill Mountain Top finish so I think he’ll be contesting all four stages yeah

And there’s no reason not to pick him even at 40 yeah that’s very true what’s your guys’ opinion on you know we got speaking of the kind of next expensive Riders zangler Bennett Hoffa Remy roas are any of these guys getting into your teams or are they is

It that pedison is quite expensive so you’re having to compromise like is a I mean Remy roas for the love of God please do not Pi anybody out there please don’t but you know sorry it’s both it’s both of those for me that I would like I have had a

Team with both pedon and Bennett but I just don’t trust Bennett I trust goat who is a whole half half his price and not many people well some people might not know who he is because he hasn’t done loads of big races yet but as you said in your video

Earlier he I think he was second to Matthews in the in one of the newor races and he tends to do well in those bad weather French Cup races um so I’ve I’ve basically got pedison and then a whole load of tens and eights yeah I

Think that’s a good shot I should just stop running my traps sometimes and just stop revealing these really good know um I agree those kind of tens eights and twelves are really good value I think for a lot of them I mean yeah what do you think Pedro Bennett do you

Reckon he’s zong Hofer or any of these names tempting um I mean from those three um zungle maybe because of his um TT skills I mean not it’s not a TT but he does well on the on the shter efforts so I believe if he he manages to do well on the first

Stage uh you’ll fight for the for the Sprints too because the sprinting field is not extremely strong so I believe he can can score quite a a few points um and he will keep the The Hope up because of the stage let’s call three according to Patrick’s logic

Um I believe that finish it looks like Zangle to me right now I have Matts and zungle and it’s not easy to set up a team with those two but um I’m I’m willing to try it yeah what worries me about cofidis is that got Kristoff NOA

At six who is himself a very good Belgian style Belgian style sorry classic style Belgian Rider um so yeah I I worry that zungul might I mean he could well be GC but having that there is a bit of a shadow I know what you mean I’m almost trying to Envision

The aelon and who’s going to be in that front group already and I’m seeing you know I’m seeing a good free track Riders I’ve seen a couple FJ in there you know it’s I do think that the achons could be a big threat for this I mean you’re

Basically pick your team based on height and weight yeah I mean some of these is not a tall guy yeah that’s very true um I mean we have Bennett is is a a tall heavy guy and I don’t trust him so yeah that’s true but but Bennett has

Well in echelon’s in parin in the past which is and yeah so but then he threw up Midway through that so I do remember that part yes that was a memorable addition um what about I mean just there’s a lot of riders here so we won’t go through like

Everyone but like do Jada does he does he deserve a shout out here or is he just another one of these like he’s very good for my stage three um but outside of that I’m like these are just flat Sprints and stuff I don’t think it’s

Massively suited to him but do you think D Jada Fon are any of those guys tempting to you or are these just two small Frenchmen who aren’t getting in I don’t see who else tal energy is riding for for the Sprints so I think because it’s such a topheavy Sprint

Field it’s going to be Bennett Bennett pedison and then just a load of other guys so dardan sprinted well I mean the one I remember is um uh the Rwanda tour was it last year or the year before that he was winning all the Sprints there so

I think he’ll just be one of those best of the rest brackets so I did have him on my team for a bit but he isn’t there now purely because I think 16’s just a bit too much yeah that’s what about other Frenchmen so moving on from them I

Mean daflon with with Bennett but also Amaral with’ godon and of course we’ll get on to gotat in in a second but you know could goon or Amaral be a sneakily quite good pick because goddon is a very good classic style Rider he was doing very well at those was it like the

Venito classic that he won it was one of those Vito races at the end of last year could he be one of those people who gets into that front split I could certainly see it happening to be honest but it’s the difficulty that the cathlon ag2r

Have so many good Riders here I think but you you could just avoid them completely but one of them I think will be doing well do you think that godal or Amaral could be good because Amaral we were saying how he’s good as a time trialist but his prologue skills aren’t

Especially good I’m scared of Amar because I think you’re banking solely on him doing well in the prologue and I don’t think that’s a certainty I think there’ll be some random people who do well in the prologue who will just kind of jump out of a woodwork I mean shamp pasan as well

As one of those who not suited towards this race but tell you what about the 12 credit Riders I think there we’re getting toward some interesting Riders here and I want to kick it off with Riley shien lots of Tye around this guy do you guys think that shien could do something

In this race he CAU all off guard at paror last year is is this a race that Sheen could do really well in or do you think that Israel will work for somebody else well I’ve picked him because it’s the first time I’ve seen him since that par tour

Race so i’ I’d much rather have him than not have him uh but the guy immediately below him I’ve got as well just recency bias with Valencia Taylor um don’t know much about that American team but they seem to all be kind of a typical um sort of strong

American sort of time trial sprinty people um but yeah I mean Israel seem a bit uh yeah there could be any number like Tom van asbook as well every team unfort every team unfortunately has quite a few options yeah yeah I mean um Shan is

Actually a good pick but um I mean with vanbrook and of ster in the same team Israel is they they they’re either gonna do gonna set the race on fire or you just going to blow it um but I I’m not comfortable taking the taking him because I think they they’ll probably

End up working for off um or Hasbrook so but he he’s definitely a good Rider so it’s it’s a good B too it’s just that it’s a it’s a very strong team yeah is a very strong team what do you think of she andan do you think that he could do

Something um I agree with them like Israel has so many options and putting 12 credits on one Rider who is not the most experience of them and H is a French and they might like work for him and there St asre so I wouldn’t spend 12 credit on him while I

Have option like Dan said I really like Tyler stits I’ve seen his result and I have him but one that we’re not talking about is David deer he might not be the David de that we remember that he used to be but I’ve looked at the A and pnb

Hotels team and I and again I don’t see any other sprinters so that I have him right now in my team and I think he’s a better option than R Shan yeah I I was just G to go on to DEA because yes this isn’t the yumbo visma David DEA but like

Dan was saying earlier the Sprint field here the bar’s quite low and deca could quite easily get you know some top three finishes here just because he is just because he’s there yeah basically and also I remember in that uee tour where he did have that kind of breakout there

Was the stage vandero one that was an Echelon day and he was in that FR group he’s a big man like it’s not like he’s washed exactly because last year at man I’m pretty sure he came second or third behind um coard and merer in stage

One and that was uphill drag yeah zero didn’t he come top potenti on stage one which Milan won very early on something oh yeah yeah yeah I think he I think he was 12 that time as well like he’s just always this really annoying price where it’s like almost too expensive but I

Mean I I might actually have to switch Shen to Deca now just because a fans me into it I think I think Shen is the sort of interesting kind of Maverick pick if you’re wanting a quite a a differential somebody who not many people might pick

I think deak is TOA for one though I think Sven Eric beastrom I think of the three he’s probably well of the four 12 credit Riders he’s probably the one who’s least appealing to me just because I just that group Palmer have talent in other areas

I just I’m not he could very well finished like eighth place in GC but that for 12 credits you know if he doesn’t really pick up stage results because he’s not the fastest Sprinter that’s not really worthwhile and I think that AA or might be a better shout so I

Think credits I see bom chasan and um Rosas on this start list and it’s just like what are you guys doing here yeah but it’s the first race for them of the Season probably so it’s like okay D is is the like you said he didn’t have

A a great season last year but he has the talent and with this sprinting field I don’t see how I could leave him out you know uh he’ll probably get a few at least one Podium I believe and maybe who knows with a bit of luck maybe win a stage he wouldn’t

Surprise surpris me honestly um he he definitely has the talent he has shown it um and I believe he’s GNA be the the main man for his team too and that’s that’s um that’s also something we we have to take in consideration um right now is on is on

My team and I I don’t I don’t see how I could live in my right now yeah moving on to the 10 credit Riders there’s there’s a few here which I like who I’ll point out I like go to that I like Kish I like van asbook and I like Watson I

Think those are my four favorite ones my reasoning go toat is he he’s just in good form and S Bennett is well known for being beaten by his lead out man so therefore I think that go toat he’s got that characteristic of somebody who I think could make a front split in an

Echelon and he could very well Sprint into a top five kers probably going to be up there in the prologue and he’ll also be up there in the echelons I bet with pedison and therefore likely finish top 10 GC van asbook less good for the prologue but will he make those front

Split so if an eon happens yes is he a fast finisher yes there might be hoffet and Sheen in there but so he’s got a little bit more risk and then Watson just because we’ll get on to you know another Sprinter in group armmer fdj in a minute but Watson I think is

Another one who’s this classic style Rider he’s in a contract year and I think that he could definitely be quite good if echelons do happen as well so do you guys agree with those four is there any other 10 credit Riders who you think might be good or actually let’s start

With who is your favorite 10 credit Rider and why Dan you go first oh great uh if if um circumstances reveal themselves to be this way I’d say go is probably the best 10 because he’s actually going to be Sprint well he will be in the mix with Bennett probably if not sprinting

Himself doing the old Danny van Popple Bennett thing um I don’t know whether I mean if I was biased I’d say Sam Watson because I he was second or third at the national champs when Cav won in real like just rain and it was like a 200k all out sort

Of break sort of stage stage race um but Alex kers I really like as well because he’s going to get all those assist points he’s going to be up there from the time trial and to be honest it’s that thin of a field he may well be sort

Of finishing with uh with pedison as well just to keep his GC Place yeah yeah he could definitely be a g like a very solid one I think that he is a I’d say he’s probably the safest one I think that in terms of absolute Point

Getting potential go toout for me is the best Pedro who’s your favorite 10 credit Rider it’s it’s an art Pi um I believe kir is and kir and um Watson are more of the safest side of the option um Hasbrook um it’s it’s an okay pick I

Honestly it’s not going to work for me um and um in terms of potential yeah go through it absolutely but he also from the four maybe the most Maverick pick um uh if it was me picking a 10-point rider I believe I’d go with Watson maybe because he’s just such a well-rounded

Rider is pretty good on all kinds of terrain and it’s just a reliable Rider um also there there is one Rider that I was checking and um he’s kind of a good Sprinter he has a few good good results top 10 in smaller French races and I

Believe he might be his team’s main man it’s Roman Cardis um but at 10 points 10 credits um it’s a little bit too much but it’s definitely uh a rer to to look at uh he has few good results and um it’s an option but for me wasn’t probably yeah

And Ean who’s your favorite 10 credit Rider I think the C is Alex K like you said and I got at the moment I’ve got some Benet in my team but now that I’m looking at the list with you guys there’s Um there’s um there’s 114 rers from there’s am there’s n p so and so in in case there’s any they’re not going to wait for some ber everyone will just try his own thing and actually I no gotat from last year I used to pick him in my

Super Classico he was at four credits and I got some point with him but I think at 10 it’s you have to be very brave to pick him and my favorite 10 and I think I’ll pick him is D break I think he’ll make it in the Shu and the C he

Be so for me it’s D baners break I like how we all have somehow ended up with a favor a different 10 credit Rider as like our favorite that’s actually quite that’s quite interesting so good only Prov only at Prov to eight credit Riders there are some which I like the look of

I there’s I think my favorites is Ryan Gibbons for a very similar reason to kers and the assist points he’s obviously in form because he’s double South African Champion I it’s not like the maybe the hardest National Championship but you know he’s still won

It and you know you got to Win It to Win It Ral Garcia Pier if you believe that he’s going to do a good prologue Samuel Laro who of course won a stage at the p and I don’t know there’s there’s also Pierre Barb but which Barb is it that’s sprinting

Pier sprinting because Rudy I’m pretty sure either it was either a comment or something where he replied to the team’s result saying it’s so good to be leading out my brother for the first time in my career um but it is annoying because Rudy was really good on ag2r a few years

Ago so because I’m I’m sure back when U was a bit smaller I’m fairly sure he want to Sprint there so yeah he might be older that might be the thing Pier might be younger more spritey so yeah does are there any eight credit riders that I’m missing that people have spotted

Or sby at Bingle yeah is he in Danish Sprinter oh yeah because he uh I mean he hasn’t been setting the world on fire but I’m he was he’s had a few good results over the years and he’s pretty reliable he had that horrible crash at tour Britain last

Year um so he’s coming back from that um yeah sby I mean I can’t fit him in yet it’s either him or Pierre Pierre Barb I think I’m gonna end up going for sby um purly because David a perso yeah David a perso is in Columbia so he’s off the start list now

Um yeah I with Ryan Gibbons though I think Ryan Gibbons is quite interesting because he’s clearly in good form and he might be leading out mads but also there’s always the possibility that because it is toal prons and it’s not the biggest Target in the year he might

Get an Echelon or something and mad’s just go yeah let him go yeah it’s very true I like you say assist points as Wells really obviously um the assist Points Guy um but there there’s a writer that I don’t I probably won’t pick him but I just can’t not mention him

Because um we we’ve already talked about stes but there’s Scott McGill on the team and believe me the only reason I need to mention him it’s because he did extremely well in a vault Portugal like two years ago he just killed the compet ition

And uh when I saw his name I was like yep that’s the guy that killed my my fellow Portuguese sprinters um no is a he’s a quite quite a good Sprinter uh he fast if you can get a a Goodwill or something he’ll he’ll score he’ll score

A good result um but probably you know St is a better option but um yeah I need to mention Scott McGill because is also is also an option inside the team also I like l r obviously but I’ll probably end up picking giens because of all the reasons we have already mentioned and

Because I’m the assist Points Guy um so yeah basically that’s it and Garcia pierna um I see him doing quite well I believe um he going to do a good first stage good TT and probably if there is a nalon I believe he can he can write it

He he has the he has the legs for it he reads the race well and it’s also a good pick a good strong pick yeah that’s true move on to the sixes now eartham uh who’s your favorite six credit Rider um is is the one which is standing out

Above Above the Rest For You Mr match walls oh yeah I can’t believe like the guy came just came from Bora and he was pretty good there he’s a good time TR this and I know you guys like Sam Watson but I think he’ll be the

Sprinter for group FG he be up front for the iso and I’m we I think we’re all very surprised at how he price at six so it’s just a gift yeah that’s true what a reckon do we all think that walls is the best well he’s he’s clearly the

Best um well for me sorry he’s clearly the best six option um I’m hoping he will be the best sort of option at fdj as well I think potentially the reason he’s so cheap is because he had that horrible crash injury it was either last year or 2022 at the Commonwealth Games

And that pretty much ruled him out for a season um obviously before that he was beating Zolo and everything Italian Classics and Sprints so hopefully he’s back to his best uh on a new team uh with Sam Watson obviously helping him out um I’m not I don’t know what his

Time trial history is so I mean being a strong track Rider hopefully he’ll be have a good prologue yeah I think I genuinely think he could be a I do think he could be a GC Contender here to be honest yeah I agree I think

Watson walls is a really good one um I just think I think I prefer Watson as his ability as a Classics Rider to make a front split um but that’s just my personal opinion I mean I don’t think wolves has ever shown I think he has done Classics

But yeah he’s he’s always been sort of second third fourth option in the list of people and I think even at Bora he was he wasn’t really getting um doing much more than Marco Hala so um yeah I don’t think he’s I don’t think Classics are really his thing yeah he’s definitely versatile

Sprinter because he was I think it was that 2022 season he was climbing and sprinting and finishing off well I’m pretty sure I was comparing him to like petan back back in the day petan 2012 P again when he could you know he’d be he’d be following the climbers well

Michael Matthews as well I guess following the climbers up and then being able to have that much faster finish yeah not there’s many client in this race yeah that’s true but making that stage three as I call it is going to be integral to being GC if you can’t hack

That I want to say it’s like 6K 4% something like that it’s a category one climb it’s pretty light yeah if you’re not if you can’t make that which to be honest with you I’m not sure if s Ben would I do have you have to make that to

Be able to uh be a depends how hard they’re riding it as well because if it’s if the weather is absolutely blowing a gale and it’s Crosswinds you know aome it’s grim and it’s grim and enough riding those conditions let alone our Hill and it’s not your terrain yeah

That’s why I think that’s why I just really like Watson I just think he’s that kind of Rider I mean of course other six credit Riders there’s loads of there’s three Leal Trek riders in here there vard has recently added yakob sish something like that and there’s all he’s not for credits unfortunately

George did he’s denied as that there’s also Tim de cler so I mean Pedro could just fill out his team with like six Leal track Riders and just raking assist points it’s not even a bad strategy like if well John did really well at B just

Picking all trick riding yeah I mean I’m swear JN was like top 50 yeah you could literally pick Pon Kush Gibbons the clerk sovic and vard and just live off the assist points because Pon will win GC by ideally kind of like quite a big margin where they automatically win

Team GC as well so therefore that’s like 50 points at the end there for team GC oh no 30 sorry it’s not a grand talk 30 and then you get the daily assist points as well for pedon winning the stage for the team classification every day for

The pedon being in the lead of GC every day you know you getting 70ish assist points just from that and you know if you don’t want to try and find the six credit Riders who are you know the perfect little person who’s going to get you 150 points there’s absolutely

Nothing wrong with just going with the safety of assist points with the lead of track Riders but especially since I can’t really think of many other six credit Riders maybe some of mentioned him no’s already six I’ve already mentioned him um yeah but then you’ve got the the zangler

Thing um I mean I I really don’t it’s just my personal style but I really don’t like doing the assist points thing because I find it I mean it’s play your your own way obviously but I find it really passive and a bit safe and I like

To try and find you know the guys going to score the points but looking at this week it might actually just like considering how well annoyingly well joh did said just picking everyone I thought well it’s a bit of a meme for him to pick all the

Tre Riders but it actually worked so I mean Lorenzo jimani was is a is an okay pick I think that he could come top 10 in the prologue but again you got to be making those front splits in the echelons there’s also Eddie L’s another group armmer pick again good time trialist but

We just have very little to go off in terms of whether they’ll make a front split if it happens but in theory if the racing is calm and these two wor to finish you know top 15 of a prologue and then they just roll in with the Pelon

Every day that’s not a bad return just to kind of rake in those daily points and then get the I don’t know somewhere in around 80ish for the end of tour points you know it’s probably not bad especially in group haror might be up there in the top three of Team GC as

Well given that they’ve got a fairly strong team but I mean Jeremy Cabo he finished fifth in the French national time Tri championships now he was about two minutes down but did finish fifth um so that’s like saying the guy on corch came fifth in the Swiss national

Championships and he was about 10 minutes down I just this just goes to show how it is quite hard did you say with this Kristoff KN Noy guy NOA not is he is he a decent pick yeah so I don’t I’m gonna have to do some live

Researching right now but I remember him being the leader for 2021 so from from 2019 he was at sport U sport Val sport Vanden baz and he was at ARA last year now he doesn’t have any wins but let me go to 2019 uh only five years ago only five years ago it’s

Fine there’s plenty of single figure finishes on that Palmer he was fourth at trop Palmer which K won go the fact I’m going back to a race that K won is not great um archives Torah turkey oh that’s the race I remember him doing well Tor turkey so

You had um Jacobson Bennett Cavendish Yan NOA yeah now fair enough after that it’s Michelli Gibson Pon parag Giddish but kind the kind of field we’re looking at at provance so yeah that’s kind of he’s in my brain from from my old age playing V games back in the day not that there

Was a tour of turkey back in the day but NOA is definitely a fast finisher a good sh I wasn’t aware of that so I think list is the six credit writers list is just so big you know there are so many options um I definitely agree that walls is just the right

Pick um you you can’t escape that um of course the the little track guys are the safer option like Dan was saying it’s a bit of a more cautious way to approach the race but I mean for this beginning of the Season you know the most Riders are not

In their perfect shape yet races can be a bit hard to read There are weird races like provance um it’s just you know safe points you know um I mean if it was for a grand tour I OB I obviously wouldn’t go that way uh maybe if if it

Was a four credit Rider maybe for the six points but you know these kind of races uh they are just hard to read and most of the of the other writers are a bit of long shots and but of course the little track guys walls uh walls is going to be the man

Yeah for sure and then well lastly four credit Riders um of which there are any there are there’s a few to go at it’s just that we’re really scraping the barrel I mean I’ll say the ones which I quite like then you guys can point out any others

So I mean somebody did point out Thomas sh Champion I think he came 202 in GC at at B so you know about some little thing to go off there’s this bony face guy who’s like a one meter 89 guy who did good in some sprints on

The like French national level and I think well you know they’ve got duj down but it’s just some massive units might just be better in a flat Sprint and I’ve also got Jey L who did a couple of top 10 in the toor of France a few years ago

I remember him being like a four credit guy on Bella games I think he was B&B hotels wasn’t he yeah he was so that’s but again it’s because they’ve got that Roman Cardis guy in here it’s you don’t really know who San Michelle mavic O Bale are going

To be riding for but he’s pretty low risk that that’s that’s all I’ve got in terms of four credit Riders does anybody else have another suggestion or do they want or do they want to reiterate the ones I’ve said I don’t know I seem to remember Kenny

Molly being Breakaway guy and I mean that team van R Ru have had a pretty good week with Samuel Laro winning so he might sort of I mean you never know breakaways win occasionally um uh but that’s proper sort of he would be the kind of guy you’d put in your V games

Classics team you just need some fours to fill out and he’d go in there um but I mean assist points with the Israel Premier Tech guys maybe yeah I know the name o knight uh cof this I’m not sure what type of Rider he is but I know he’s

British yeah him for a zler assist points if you’re really scraping for for something this just feel very similar to P where it’s just like I I mean obviously you would have got very lucky if you got if you’re a family member of Samuel Laro and you put him in your V

Games team uh you probably did all right but uh THS in these kind of races I mean I’d be amazed if any of them pick up like a handful of break points yeah well for sure uh Bonas like Patrick said um is probably the best one I guess um when I
