  1. I’ve never seen galvanic corrosion due to a nipple.. not saying it’s not possible, just that I haven’t seen it. Besides, your nipple looks like it’s aluminum(?) and not brass and your rim appears to be aluminum… so not much electrochemistry between two pieces of aluminum touching. I’d assume a production flaw or maybe just over tightening.

    Two versions that I see, neither involve corrosion.

    Firstly, I’d suspect spoke tension, likely too little, or wayyy too much.

    Secondly; Any rim deforms ever so slightly where the wheel meets the road. So the nipple gets some distance to the rim if the spokes are sufficently slack. Or at least loose tension. Then, when the rim moves back, the nipple “slams” against the rim. The looser the spokes, the bigger the effect.

    The break exactly at the head hints at both, though my guess is repetitive stress due to issue 2.
