Morning Everyone.
I’m new to MTB and bought my first bike. I got a [Scott Spark 960 2014](https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Scott/Spark-960,13524) for about $400(R7500) secondhand as new bikes is very expensive here in South Africa.
I want to upgrade the drivetrain to a SHIMANO Deore M6100 12-Speed and the chainring to a Deore 34T Oval. Would this work for this bike?
I was looking at Deore as most kits is almost more than my salary. Any advice is appreciated.

What deficiency are you finding with the existing drivetrain that you hope will be fixed with a new drivetrain?
I am making an assumption about your wheels, but 12 speed Shimano requires microspline, which I doubt you have. You’d have to get a new hub, wheel, or freehub depending on what you have and whether there is an option to change anything tbT is necessary to make the swap.
Deore 12 speed works great, but I would agree with the other commenter that you should stick to either 10 or 11 speed if cost is a concern since you’ll need to upgrade your freehub. Anecdotally, I’ve got a 1×10 deore setup that I find has plenty of climbing ability. You also may probably will not have the rear axle space to accommodate a 12 speed anyways.
Another drivetrain I wholeheartedly recommend is Microshift Advent. Fantastic performance for the price and comes with a clutch to boot. You should consider all drivetrain components consumable so it’s nice to have a drivetrain that has cheap components.
I think your pretty much stuck with your current 9-speed, or an also outdated 10-speed conversion that you’ll find parts are hard to find for.
Perhaps save up for a different wheel-set with the 12-speed already on it?
