After many years I took apart the Formula hub from my Marin PM2 to clean and regrease, and I cannot figure out how the pawls/spring are supposed to go back together.
I’ve tried every orientation I can think of but can’t get all the pawls to snap out to the “engaged” position. No matter what position the spring is in, one of the pawls is loose.
Two things I’ve noticed: one one side of the freehub there is a stop/notch. Also, the spring itself has a dogleg, so there must be some combination I haven’t thought of that keeps the spring tight against the body?

When you look down on it, the pawls should look like “d’, with that rounded bit facing inwards towards the centre and the tail pointing back ANTI clockwise. Fit the spring on first . The groove for the spring might have a small bridge to ” lock” one end of the spring and prevent it from rotating . That would tell you where it should fit.
Edit. Your second picture shows where the ends of the spring go. That pinched bit is the stop.
Sorry, edit edit: i keep finding more pics, but it’s not easy to swipe them into view on my phone. There SHOULDNT be a dogleg, the spring should be round. That is your problem. You need to bend it back into a circle. Your last pic shows it correctly fitted, bar the bent spring. Just bend it with your fingers.
