This is a review of the stay at Dusit Thani Kyoto, a new luxury hotel in Japan that opened on September 1, 2023. The room we stayed in. Thai cuisine dinner course. Hotel facilities such as a Japanese tea salon and pool. Breakfast of Thai and Kyoto cuisine. Please enjoy the hotel reviews.

Let’s start from Kyoto Station, Japan. Dusit Thani Kyoto is conveniently located 12 minutes walk from Kyoto Station. This hotel is located in the heart of Kyoto, and has a Japanese-style design that blends in with its surroundings. The combination of black or gray walls and vertical wooden louvers is impressive.

Let’s walk to the entrance. Dusit Thani Kyoto was created by Dusit International, a major Thai hotel company. Dusit Thani is positioned as a luxury brand within the Dusit Group, a major hotel company in Thailand. There is a driveway in front of the entrance.

The lobby design combines the architectural styles of two ancient capitals: Ayutthaya (Thailand) and Kyoto (Japan). It is a lobby lounge where we can also eat and drink. There are reception desks on the left. A wooden tray with muntins. Welcome drink changes seasonally. Dusit Thani ballpoint pen.

This blue decoration stands out in the lobby. This is a shop. Hotel goods and other items are sold here. This is a gallery. Wecan read a book or have tea. And there is a Japanese tea salon. There are 147 guest rooms and 3 elevators, which is a sufficient number.

Let’s get on the elevator. There is a spa on the second basement floor, a restaurant on the first basement floor, and a lobby on the first floor. There are guest rooms on the 1st to 4th floors. The room we will be staying in is on the 4th floor. The passageway is Japanese style.

The card key is made of wood and has a simple design. This time it’s a room called “Corner Suite”. It’s a middle-ranked room at the hotel, and the price details are listed at the end of the video. It’s a new hotel so the light switches have a modern design.

First, let’s look at the entire room. In the foreground is the dining room. The living room is in the back. This is the bedroom. Walk-in closet. Twin sink washbasin. The front is the bathroom. Now go around the room. There is a green bonsai tree, giving it a Japanese atmosphere.

There is a toilet next to it. It’s a new hotel, so the walls and floors are very clean. The faucet is black in color and has a modern design. The hand soap container also has a simple design. TOTO toilets open and close automatically. Japanese toilets are multifunctional, clean, and wonderful.

Toilet paper has a triangular weave. There is a full-length mirror near the entrance. There is something like a hanger rack. There is an umbrella. There is a courtyard on the first basement floor, and on rainy days you may need an umbrella. Let’s take a look at the dining table.

It’s not a black box…it’s a stand. Bowl. It has a slightly unique color. There was a review that the handle of the teapot gets hot. There are decorations with wooden designs, giving it a Japanese-style atmosphere. The sofa and chair have a calm color scheme of gray and ivory.

Next, let’s take a look at the minibar. Glasses and cups. Coasters with Dusit Thani written on it. There are 4 types of alcohol. Dry gin from Kyoto called Kinomi. Gin from Nozawa Onsen. Campari is behind it. Suntory’s whiskey “Ao”. Nespresso machine. Water in an aluminum can. Cocktail set. Ice bucket. Bermuda electric kettle.

Four coffee cups. There are three flavors of coffee capsules. TWG tea. Murano bottle opener. Sugars. Japanese whiskey “Togouchi” and “Yamazaki”. Hendrix Gin. Suntory brandy “VSOP”. There are 3 types of yokan. Cutleries. “Komamehan” is a bean confectionery from Kyoto. Crisps. Organic dried mango. Red shiso juice from Ohara, Kyoto.

There are various beers and soft drinks. Fushimi(伏水) is Kyoto’s drinking water. Minibar menu list. The price is quite high. There are light and air conditioner switches. This switch allows us to adjust the room temperature. Light switches. These are the window blind switches. Let’s take a look at the living room.

This looks like a box, but it won’t open. The cushion has a distinctive design. Is the pattern on the rug wood? A small bonsai? there is. The TV is made by Panasonic. There are shoji screens on the windows, giving it a Japanese-style feel.

View from the east side of the hotel. These include Higashi Honganji Temple. We can see Kyoto Tower. Let’s take a look at the sofa side table. It’s a TV remote control. There are many apps such as Netflix and YouTube. Phone handset and tissue. There is a power outlet and a USB port.

We can choose between twin and king beds. It’s the same ballpoint pen that was at the reception. It’s a simple clock. Includes power outlet, USB port and light switch. There is a standing light in the drawer. The bed board is gray in color. There are two pillows and they are soft.

The firmness of the mattress is average. The good thing about the room is that there are many sofas. There is also a power outlet and USB port next to the sofa. Let’s take a look at the other bedside. It says about changing bed linen and towels.

There is high-end speaker from Bang & Olufsen. There are also light switches next to the bed. There is also a TV in the bedroom. Something like the box from earlier is being used as a TV stand.

View from the south side of the hotel. The disadvantage is that it is close to the road and we can hear the sound of cars driving. Walk-in closet. There is a space on the left where we can sit and put things. The hangers have no scratches and look brand new.

There is an accessory tray. Safety box. There is a yukata. This design is common to both men and women. There is a laundry set. The shoe brush and shoe horn are also very clean. Indoor slippers have a simple design. The bathroom has twin sinks. There is an Omron body composition monitor.

It’s a small soap. Body lotion from Thai brand HARNN. Makeup mirror. This is an amenity box. Shower caps and cotton pad. Toothpastes and toothbrushes. Shaving kit, mouthwash, nail kit, sewing kit. The amenity box and tissue case also look brand new. There are towels underneath. The latest hair dryer from Repronizer is installed.

This is a dressing table. The fabric of the bathrobe is neither thick nor thin. This is the bathroom. It has a calm design. Column for switching showers and adjusting temperature. Full length mirror and rain shower. The shower has a black and stylish design. It is made by American manufacturer KOHLER.

Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap from the Thai brand HARNN. The bathtub has steps. This is just a wall. There is blind and window here. There are loofah sponge, body sponge, bath salt, and bath pillow. The Premier Room is the cheapest room and is 40 square meters.

The price is ¥46,550 / $310 per night (breakfast included). Even within the Premier Rooms, the rooms are divided according to bed type and view. The higher-grade room is a suite with an area of 80 square meters. The price is ¥120,500 / $800 (breakfast included).

The corner suite is the room we introduced this time. Above that is a room called the Premier Suite, which is 108 square meters in size. The most expensive room is the Imperial Suite, which is 173 square meters and costs ¥647,500 / $4,600 (breakfast included).

The size of the room and the price do not match, and the more expensive the room, the lower the cost performance. I returned to the lobby. There are escalators that take us to the first basement floor. There are stairs next to it, but it seems that almost no one uses them.

Let’s move to the first basement floor. There are the restaurants on the basement floor. Ayatana is a Thai restaurant. There is a wedding venue in front and a Japanese garden to the right. Japanese garden on the first basement floor. It has an atrium all the way to the top.

The Japanese garden is illuminated at night and is beautiful. DEN KYOTO is a bar. It’s a bar with a nice atmosphere. We can see Teppanyaki. This is French Teppanyaki. Let’s go inside. It’s a thick door. On the right is a Thai dessert atelier called Kati.

Kati and Ayatana are supervised by the chef of Bangkok’s Thai restaurant Bo.Lan. Koyo (紅葉) is a Teppanyaki restaurant. There are Japanese cuisine and French Teppanyakis. This is the start of the Thai course dinner. Walk through the Japanese garden holding a fan. The fan is infused with the scent of essential oils.

Move from Ayatana to Kati. Ayatana is a Thai word that means the six senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and mind) in Buddhist philosophy. Welcome drink for dinner. It tasted easy to drink. Wash our hands with organic herbal water. Sweets made with pumpkin seeds and coconut.

This is a description of the dish. It costs ¥24,800 / $165 per person. Drinks menu. Cocktails, champagnes and white wines. There are various kinds of wine. It’s Japanese alcohol. Teas and coffees. When we move to another room, the chef will be there to greet us.

Amuse bush. A mixture of Kyoto vegetables such as Kamo eggplant, Thai chili oil and chili pepper. These are like a series of Thai rituals, and are structured to moisturize the senses of smell and touch. It was said to be a little spicy, but it was quite spicy.

Cleanse our palate with vegetables and fruits. After finishing the amuse, we moved to the main dining area. Most of the staff are Thai, and there are also a few Japanese staff. My impression is that half of the customers are Japanese and half are foreigners.

The food menu is written in Japanese and Thai. Five appetizers are served, followed by a main course and dessert. Pear and shrimp. Flavored with coconut. Spoon and fork are small. I like the coconut flavor. We ordered a signature cocktail. This dish is… Southern Thai style rice salad. Caramel coconut and crab egg net.

Matsutake mushroom and karangal relish. Contains rice. Pork stew with bitter gourd and salt fish. Seven main items are provided together. Pork salad with persimmon and red dressing. Mushrooms and pork liver stir-fried with shishito pepper, chili pepper, and holy basil. Beef rib paneen curry. Coconut soup with clams and seaweed. Mackerel and Kyoto vegetables.

Northeast Thai style steamed fish. It’s authentic Thai cuisine. Ice cream, fruit, shaved ice, and coconut milk for dessert. It tastes easy to eat. Sweets mixed with coconut and nuts. The taste is easier to eat than it looks. There will be lots of sweets after this.

A lot of baked sweets came out. We are allowed to take it freely. I’ll only pick the baked goods that interest me. The Thai course meal was very satisfying. At the end, a drink blended with sencha and Thai flowers is served.

Many of the staff at the hotel are foreigners, so it feels more like being in a foreign country than in Japan. After dinner, we will take a walk around the hotel. This is a shop located on the lobby floor. Matcha kit ¥55,000 / $370. Incense kit. Kintsugi kit. There are various items here.

Ohako ¥1,296 ($9). There are art books. Welcome tray ¥22,000 ($150). The price was higher than I expected. Kumiko coaster. A tree is coming out of the crystal. There are bowls. It’s a unique design. This is The Gallery. There are lights that look like a centerpiece. There are Japanese books.

There are photos of the Great Buddha, stone statues, and Jizo statues. Unique lighting shaped like a mushroom. Art is displayed on the walls. There are various books that introduce Japan. There are books with Japanese characters. It seems difficult. There is an art book. This also seems difficult.

If we look closely, we can see art that looks like Kumiko. Marco Polo’s travel book. A book by Fukuda Kodojin, a painter and haiku poet who was active from the Meiji period to the early Showa period. There is a cafe/bar lounge on the left and a Japanese tea cafe on the right.

Afternoon tea is served during the day and alcoholic drinks are served at night. Lots of alcoholic drinks. A Japanese tea cafe called Tea Salon. A tranquil space that combines tradition and wellness experiences. There is a book that contains the floor plans and photos of Japanese tea rooms.

This is a book about Nishijin textiles in Kyoto. Matcha making set. Sencha, Hojicha, and Matcha are served here using tea leaves grown in Wazuka Town, Kyoto Prefecture. There are many teapots, all with different designs. It’s a large teapot. There is also a Japanese garden on the first floor.

This is the exterior of the hotel at night. It seems that the design is such that it does not spoil the scenery of Kyoto. I think it’s a bit of a disadvantage that cars pass by quite often. There is a passageway next to the entrance that leads to the parking lot.

If ywe look closely, it’s beautiful. The design is a fusion of Kyoto and Thailand, but it doesn’t feel out of place. Lobby lounge at night. It’s a blue decoration. If we look closely, you can see that it is curved, giving it a slightly cheap impression. There are also books in the lobby lounge.

Japanese magazines and newspapers, English newspapers. Kyoto tourism magazines and books. We go back to our room. Based on my impressions so far, I think it’s a new, clean, and nice hotel. The interior is a fusion of Kyoto and Thailand, so there are likely pros and cons to that aspect.

The passageway is slightly illuminated at night. When we returned to our room, the turndown service had finished. Slippers, glass, and water are provided. There are candies from Kyoto called “Tamba Kuriame”. The illumination of Kyoto Tower is beautiful. Amenities are made from environmentally friendly materials.

I read some reviews about the water pressure in the shower being weak, so I decided to check it out. The shower head is made by a company called Kohler, but I don’t think the water pressure is very strong. This is about it even at MAX. The shower head has 3 modes.

I didn’t find the water pressure in the shower that bad, but it may be a concern for some people. I’m going to sleep for now. It’s the next morning. We can clearly see the cityscape of Kyoto.

We can see the cityscape of Kyoto from the window, but some people may be concerned about the location. Before the hotel was built, it was an elementary school, and there is also a park next to it, probably because of its remains.

Let’s go to the spa, gym, and pool on the second basement floor. Gym wear and swimwear can be rented for a fee. There are lockers. Towels and waters are provided. There are washstands. Fully equipped with amenities and hair dryer. There is a dehydrator for swimsuits. There are two showers. There is a bathtub.

This is a dry sauna. The space is large enough to accommodate 3 people at maximum. The temperature is 80 degrees and a 12 minute clock is installed. The changing room is connected to the pool. Rented swimwear. The lockers are normal size. We can open and close the lock with the wristband.

I entered the pool area. The pool is beautiful, but it is not large as it is 13m long and 4m wide. This is the shower room. The depth is 1.2m. The room temperature is about 28 degrees. Towels and waters are provided. There are beat bangs.

Since it is an underground pool, it has a somewhat similar atmosphere to the Ritz-Carlton Kyoto. It has hydrotherapy and hydromassage functions. Turn on hydromassage. The water temperature was not too cold and it was easy to get into. Turn on hydrotherapy. It seems like you can train like Takigyo.

There is a gym next to the pool. This is a small gym. Next is a studio with a balance ball. Various items are displayed on the shelves. There is a paid fitness membership program. This is···? Yoga mats and towels. Bench press table and dumbbells.

The machines in the gym are made by an American manufacturer called Precor. We can exercise on the treadmill or cycling machine while looking out at the pool. Cosmetics from the brand PHYTOWER are sold here. PHYTOWER is a marine cosmetics brand born in Brittany, France.

Breakfast will be eaten at the same restaurant Ayataya as dinner. Breakfast is ¥6,325 ($43) per person. Western menus. Thai menus. Comfort recipes. Sweet Indulgence. Side dishes. Teas, coffees. Fresh juices. Water and flavored water. 4 types of milk. Fresh juices. It is semi-buffet style and there is a buffet table. Salads. Dressings.

Quinoa, ratatouille, and hummus. Salmons. Hams. Cheese. Miso soup. Grilled fishes. This is a Kyoto cuisine corner. Tofus and soy sauce. Dashi-rolled eggs. White rice. Fruits and yogurts. Cereals. Breads. Toaster. Croissant Spiced Eggs Benedict. Kyoto Mizuho Farm eggs are used. Popular Thai dish “Gapao rice”. It’s a stable taste. Fruit, macaroni salad, pumpkin salad.

I’m going to give it a Kyoto feel with dashimaki eggs, tofu, and miso soup. Thai fried noodles “passille”. Omelette. Waffle. There is an atrium above the Japanese garden on the first basement floor. It is said that the land was dug up to build a hotel. Take a walk outside.

I haven’t seen the entire exterior of the hotel, so I’ll take a look. Wood and vertical louvers make it difficult to see inside from the outside. The arrangement of vertical louvers is not constant.

This is a park. Before the hotel was built, there was Kyoto City Ueyanagi Elementary School, so they may have played here. Ueyanagi Elementary School closed in March 2010, so that was a long time ago. The site of the elementary school remains, and the development of Dusit Thani Kyoto began in 2020.

There is a statue of Kinjiro Ninomiya. They are collecting trash here. There is a mailbox. It’s behind the hotel. There is retro building. Important Cultural Property Honganji Mission Temple (重要文化財 本願寺伝道院). There are Kyoto general stores on the road. Nishi Honganji Temple is a 3-minute walk from the hotel.

This is the road in front of Nishi Honganji Temple. It’s very spacious. We can enter Nishi Honganji for free. Let’s dive right in. It is a large precinct. We can hear the sutra even from outside. We take off our shoes and go inside. Let’s go inside. They are chanting sutras over there.

Nishi Hongan-ji Temple is part of the Jodo Shinshu Hongan-ji sect. It’s roughly like this. Return to hotel. It’s a really wide road. There is also Higashi Honganji Temple, but due to time constraints, I did not go there. Check out at the lobby.

The price is ¥248,048 ($1,640). Since it was the day before a three-day holiday, the prices were higher than usual. The road from the hotel to the station was bumpy and it was a bit difficult to roll our suitcases. We will take a taxi on the way back.

If you use a taxi, you can get from the hotel to Kyoto Station in about 5 minutes. We returned to Kyoto Station. I thought Dusit Thani Kyoto was an interesting hotel as it was a fusion of Thailand and Kyoto. The hotel is new and the rooms are clean.

The location is convenient as it is close to Kyoto Station, but the surrounding environment does not have that luxury feel. The Thai food was unique and good. If you want to taste Kyoto cuisine, you may want to choose another hotel. Thank you for your viewing.

  1. Dusit Thani is a Thai company ("Town in Heaven" in English), but I don't understand why you need a Thai-style dinner in a luxury Japanese hotel. Japanese food is exquisite enough.
