Looking at Amazon because it’s announced it will start to use drones to deliver Parcels in under an hour in the UK from the end of next year the online retail giant says the service will start in one location which is yet to be revealed it’s already running the service in
Parts of the United States our business correspondent Emma Simpson has been to a small town in California to see how it works you know what it’s like waiting for an online order wondering when the van is going to turn up but look into the distance this one’s coming by
Air in the small town of Lockford California Amazon is using drones to deliver packages to customers this service is coming to the UK too Jeff loves it it’s fun I never thought I’d be getting packages delivered in my backyard so when you order it we see it within 20 to 30
Minutes so obviously quicker than having to run to the store and getting this stuff what about the noise the noise is it’s a little loud um but it doesn’t disturb me accepted by all launching so how does it work it’s another exciting bit we’re the first to
See behind the scenes at Amazon’s launch facility here’s a parcel going out it can’t be bigger than a shoe box nor weigh more than5 the Drone can reach customers up to 3 and 1/2 miles away the rules are strict each flight is monitored and there’s a human eye keeping tabs on it
Too a flying robot that knows exactly where to go how does it know not to bump into anything uh so our sensitive way technology will observe a threat in the sky or on the ground uh make a course correction and safely find a path to deliver to customers drones are never
Going to replace Vans but this is a glimpse of the future online deliveries in just minutes and here at this Amazon site in Seattle a new drone is being unveiled this is a drone coming to the UK it’s smaller it’s lighter it travels further and it’s most importantly um at least
40% quieter to our previous Dron is that safe it’s absolutely safe it is hundreds of times safer than driving to the store just one location to begin with exactly how and where it can fly has still to be worked out you we’ll scale slowly we’ll scale with communities um and we’ll
Scale based on what our regulatory approvals are Amazon believes the demand is there here in America though progress hasn’t been quick but it’s got big Ambitions aiming for 500 million Global drone deliveries by the end of the decade Emma Simpson BBC News Lockford California

Thank you but.. NO.
Seems terribly inefficient, wouldn’t an airship with winch drop be better, where it could do many drops, only problem with this I guess would be the wind
Babe, here comes the package. "zoooom, Smack". Honey, honey, honeyyyyyy?
Hopefully they wont throw urine bottles or “handed to resident” when in fact throwing it at the closed door and running away.
What is the safety of these? The guy said they are safer than driving to pick the parcel, but what if it breaksdown and the drone falls down? What if it hits the top of a moving car or worse the head of someone? Can these fly on safe paths above our heads?
Also will agree with the rest, just for the noise this is a no go from me.
Do you want to permit or not permit drones in your airspace? Register for free with us and you can take control of your airspace and earn passive income too.
Nice to see such a great innovation eventhough it replace many jobs of delivery boys, courier companies but it remind us to update our knowledge and skills are essential to live fearlessly
It Dose have Faults.
Love it❤
Take me Daddy Bezos
5000 pc lmao
Some people are glad… while others worry we are becoming victims technology
Evil looking box-pooping drones
One of those things that sounds good in theory. Ai/ bots and autonomous vehicles will come before drones
HAHAHAHAHA what a joke, the people that worked under GUR who started it all are mostly gone, they brought Boeing employees and hire ups to take the operation, this is just a joke. They have to go to other countries to prove ideas, and it will not be here in the US. They can barely get to quiet down let alone paint it right. lol
what a joke.
Drones will replace vans eventually
Once it arrives to the UK, lets see how long it takes for the pikeys to destroy them
Won't work for my area or disabled. Needs to be handed to customer
repair tools and replacements aid kit
I've always thought this was a solution to a problem that doesn't exist
Work great on where properties as re further apart
But GlASS you cant drop it
Haha, its a little loud, but it doesnt disturb me… nice egoistic view of things XD
Will never happen in Germany ever – never. Nobody wants these loud monsters fly over your house permantely.
Sounds good however Id think that it wouldnt be allowed to operate on a windy day or with high wind gusts, not sure about low visibility.
😂 That's cute
They are loud as fuck 😂😂😂
NO recovery system? Not even a parachute?! Nope, this and Walmart need to address real safety concerns just to start with before launching these things all day long. I'm beginning to realize neither endeavor is going to happen at the scale they think it is.
Well done BBC for obliterating 1/3 of the image with your stupid huge lower thirds banner across the bottom….🙄
A US comedian said rednecks will see this as gunning for prizes.
