PSA: a 24/26” is not a BMX bike, if it has suspension it’s not a BMX bike, and most people here don’t care about your Frankenstein bike build. Go ride.

Quick Disclaimer: I ride anything with two wheels. BMX, dirt jumpers, motocross, fat bikes, mountain bikes, etc… I think all the shit is sick. I raced BMX twenty some years, a couple years professionally then transitioned to professional downhill and dual slalom. Now I have a regular ass white collar job and ride in my free time.

With that said, BMX stands for Bicycle Motocross. BMX began during the early 1970s in the United States when children began racing their bicycles on dirt tracks in southern California, inspired by the motocross stars of the time. They created dirt tracks with jumps and berms, and riders would race to the finish line, essentially emulating motocross racing, without a motor. These races were “run what you brung” meaning kids would show up to race on literally whatever bikes their parents could afford.

I think that saying a 24″ is not a bmx bike, or a 26″ with a suspension front fork is “not bmx” is such a braindead take. BMX is how you ride the bicycle, not what bike you ride. To me, riding a 26″ dj with an air front fork down a dirt jump line is more “Bicycle *Motocross*” than parking lot kids doing fakie smiths at 2 mph. But more importantly, I don’t want to be pedantic like OP. Ride dirt jumps, or do 2mph fakie smiths, I don’t give a shit. It is BMX, and BMX is rad.

You know what is not rad? Gatekeeping. Buncha fookin grown ass men on kids bikes anyway. Quit taking yourself so seriously. Shit is lame.

Edit: none of you are going to change my mind on this. Go to a MTB sub if you want to talk about suspension and big wheels.
