Been scouring FB Marketplace for a road bike, and wow coming up short on my self imposed budget of <$300 for a starter bike.

Found this older (?) Schwinn for $200 but don’t know the difference between good components and bad ones. Guy also has very limited knowledge on the bike.

Is it worth the price?

I’ve been trying to stick to Trek, Specialized, Giant, Cannondale, and Bianchi but not having luck.

  1. Worth $50 at most. I wouldn’t buy it even for that, myself. Super Sports from what I recall were mid-low end bikes. Not to mention the original drive train has been swapped out in favor of some sort of half-assed 1x setup. For $200-$300 you can do loads better.

  2. Seems very high. Sold a late 2000’s Specialized Roubaix with several new parts for $300 last fall

  3. Not for that price especially with the poorly done 1x. If it was stock with the front derailleur and 2x chain set then $150 would be the most I’d even consider on it.

My first bike was a vintage Schwinn Le Tour. It served me very well and was quite robust and I learned a lot on it. So I’m not against old bikes, but I would pass on this one based on condition and previously mentioned poorly done 1x set up
