Are you referring to the teeth marks in the splines or the pawls on the freehub?

Most likely dirt ingres, or lack of lubrication, but its hard to be certain.

Pawls. No light lube probably. TBH it’s rare they cause a problem. I’d say as it’s so new it wasn’t lubed when it was built. NB normally there’s grease on the free hub to stop the cassette freezing on. Pawls just light oil. If they had grease they tend to stick down and don’t engage. I’d guess it maybe has damaged your hub too.
