Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Pinterest Bluesky Threads New Bike Build. I did take a few links out already. Always afraid of taking too many out! See derailiur position on lowest gear. Shorter chain would pull it forward more. by porktornado77 Bicycling Bike Bike Repair Biking Cycling Repair
papa_hou on January 31, 2024 10:14 pm Too long, looks like it’s resting on top of the chain stay? Big cog, to chainring + 3 links, for shimano. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdUQKVMPF5I&ab_channel=ParkTool](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdUQKVMPF5I&ab_channel=ParkTool)
Antti5 on January 31, 2024 10:40 pm Can you double-check that this is the SGS-type XT derailleur that has longer cage and the capacity for 10-51? If so, then I would remove exactly one pair of chain links. It’s definitely too long in the smallest sprocket.
step1makeart on January 31, 2024 11:00 pm Finding and following the install guide is always the correct move: https://si.shimano.com/en/pdfs/dm/MARD001/DM-MARD001-05-ENG.pdf Modern Shimano 1x RDs have a much larger b gap setting than derailleurs from past generations. you can’t go wrong following the manual to the letter, but you can go wrong following a 10 year old video that doesn’t apply to modern derailleurs.

If in doubt, count the old links
